I bet the uniforms are all neatly pressed and French and Belgium troops are depicted as being heroic.
Will German troops be depicted kicking water buckets left for the prisoners that had to march to captivity?
Will it be made clear that German airplanes bombed civilians who took non-military roads but did not concentrate their bombing on civilians who stuck to military roads?

I just saw Dunkirk this afternoon on IMAX. No Germans were seen until the end of the film, when a character was captured. It's fine film, but it's not as good as Saving Private Ryan in depicting the battle. I like the fact that there was little CGI used. However, you don't see the sense of scale that must have happened with hundreds of small private boats rescuing hundreds of thousands of troops. The film shows the retreat from three 'points of view' - land by following a small group of soldiers, sea by showing one civilian rescue boat, and air by showing a group of three Spitfires on patrol. The narrative is disjointed as the POV rapidly shifts. For instance, some scenes are set at night while cutting to daylight (a different POV), and then back to night again. There is the sound of a clock ticking in the music/score to invoke a sense of urgency, but there is no sense of the passage of time due to the disjointed editing.

Say what??? That's half the reason
to see a war movie, there were two
sides, you know. What a bad decision.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I was in Providence, RI on Friday with nothing to do. They had a 70 mm IMAX screen showing Dunkirk. I'm kicking myself for not seeing it there (I went to the casino instead).

70 mm IMAX is the way to go for a movie like this. My local IMAX theater is a digital wannabe version (often referred to as "Lie-MAX").

I don't know about ticking clocks... no one knew what the allowable time would be and most of those trying to get to a place of evacuation were so desperate that they were beyond strategy, tactics and allocation of resources. It was more of a rout than a retreat. Think how the empty lifeboats had to drift in with the changing tide before another load of soldiers could be evacuated because no one aboard had the courage to go back in and re-load the boat.

Churchill was decisive with his 'no wounded' order and one officer did get vehicles driven onto the beach at low tide and a sort of pier constructed, but other than a few instances it was more of a mad panic to get to Dunkirk and then a long line before you could wade into the water and hope, but there was too much confusion for anyone to have a reliable estimate of how much time we have left to get this job done.

My boot camp instructor saw Sheldon Adelson and three of his bodyguards at a local movie theater seeing Dunkirk. I think it is very unlike him to get so close to the general public. He must have really wanted to see it.

In other news, I saw War for the Planet of the Apes. About equal to the previous Ape film and inferior to the first.

It's difficult to believe that he doesn't have a million dollar home theater in that mansion

My understanding is that "Prima Cinema" which is $20K upfront and $500 per movie actually does not include the best film releases.

IMAX private theater may have better offerings, but for more money

I'm sure he has some kind of home theater in there but probably didn't want to wait until Dunkirk was available to the general public. Born in 1933, I'm sure he remembers WWII and may just have a personal interest in it. If I were as rich as him I'd still make it to a regular movie theater to see Alien Covenant.

That house, by the way, is only a couple miles or so from mine, as the crow flies. The back can be seen from a bike trail near my house.

What are those other buildings nearby, slave quarters?

I don't see a grand swimming pool, but is there a waterpark with slides at the top of the picture?
