Quote: US Federal Communications Chairman Newton N Minow (May 9, 1961)
But when television is bad, nothing is worse. I invite each of you to sit down in front of your own television set when your station goes on the air and stay there, for a day, without a book, without a magazine, without a newspaper, without a profit and loss sheet or a rating book to distract you. Keep your eyes glued to that set until the station signs off. I can assure you that what you will observe is a vast wasteland.

CNN began broadcasting on 1 June 1980. At that point I know the broadcast stations no longer signed off as many of them at least wanted to be on air to compete with CNN.

I suspect the end of sign off for major broadcasters was before that date, but I can't remember when.

If "It" is any good, a whole new generation of kids will be unusually terrified of clowns. Be a damn shame if it doesn't pull that off.

I can't wait. Already got my tickets for the first showing.

Early word has been very very positive.

It's looking like it's going to have the biggest opening weekend for an R-Rated horror movie ever...

Caught this on HBO this weekend.

Stellar performance from Natalie Portman. I really enjoyed the movie.

So this clown takes over the I.T. departments all over the world and shuts off the internet?

Scary. Very scary.

I can believe that projection.
I would be surprised if it outsells the 34 million tickets of "The Amityville Horror", but in 1979 opening weekends were not as great a percentage of total ticket sales.

There is zero chance of it coming close to the 100+ million ticket sales of The Exorcist.

Unlike possibly all horror movies there was virtually nothing in it, beyond claims already made for real events. Of course, it was a collection of events, not just one. Furniture moving was claimed many many times for spirits. Most likely none verified though.

And Megan didn't have powers or any more super strength than has been claimed by real people.

Only thing I'm not sure of is the 360 degree turn of her head -- but I wouldn't be surprised if that had been a claim too. And probably if I twisted a pajama top while turning my head the opposite way, I might fool someone into believing I could spin my head farther than what is normally observed.

Projectile vomiting is possible. Speaking in strange voices is possible. Exorcisms are officially sanctioned . And Demon possession is also believed.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?
