So you're saying I can split myself in half and create two distinct beings? Or I can split myself in four and create four distinct half-beings who just need to join with other half beings?

The point is cells reproduce one way (and mitochondria another!) Gametes reproduce a different way. And humans don't reproduce either like skin cells or ova.

That's what a qualitative difference means.

I continue to fail to see the significance of this line of thought to our conversation but almost all the cells that make you up as a person do split in one of the two ways we both know of.

I think the main point here is that you are a dependent creature, you did not create your cells or order them to replicate, ifferentiate, or divide. You are greater than your parts, but you are not neccessary nor do you possess the reason for your being. Neither does the universe, so you are in good company.

What profound truths are being passed on that allows these mythical stories to be so treasured for generations and generations.

Tell me a profound truth, I never heard one
before. Go ahead, lay one on me. I dare you.

"The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth."
- Niels Bohr

Or to paraphrase Heinlein, "One mans profound truth is another mans belly laugh."

Not at all. It's why the popularity of myths has
died out, ignorant minds were gradually replaced
by educated minds. Science took over and myth
has no place in science. To use the example in
the video, we know why there are 4 seasons, we
don't need a quaint story to fill in the blanks while
we wait for the truth. Myths serve a purpose, until
enlightenment comes along and blows them out
of the water. Studying them can show how we
got to where we are today, comparing myths from
different cultures is entertaining. But in the end
science triumphs every myth every time.

It is not good for man to be alone.

Nope, even the myths that purport to explain why we have the seasons are not just about that. They tell so much more that science doesn't and can't speak to. For example the pain and often unreasonable and long lasting response we have to grief.

By the way be careful about painting with broad strokes here. You to this very day still believe in the debunked myths surrounding things like the Inquisition. Science and history have triumphed over the anti-Catholic myths that you still hold.

Which men, certainly not all men. Some
men very much prefer to be alone. For
every profound truth, there is always
a profound rebuttal. Profound truths
are myths.

Yeah, they pretty much are. They were invented
to make people feel good about what was then
unexplainable. You can always find more in something
than is actually there if you go looking for it. The
trick is, don't go looking. It always gets you in trouble.

Fine. Go split in half and prove me wrong.

Again you sometimes say very true things. This could be a good definition of myth. They pass on profound truths often through stories.

Uh huh. Let me say it another way:

Profound truths are not truth,
they are opinions. Again, name
just one so called profound
'truth'. The first one you tried
isn't true at all.

No it is true a lot. It is not good for man to be alone. Sometimes there are exceptions of course when we desire or need to be alone, but that is not a permanent state. We need friendship and companionship, that is a truth. Some guys are tough and individualistic and don't need much in the way of fellowship, but that does not make it just an opinion.

Let's take a few more though shall we: What about as someone posted your statement about the eternal being now. Wow! You can think about that for awhile and it has truth to it for sure.

Here is another one: "Profound truths are not truth, they are opinions." This one I disagree with completely but you would be surprised to hear that the gentleman who came up with that nugget of wisdom doesn't even believe in profound truths. To prove his point he presented a type of profound truth, pretty neat huh?

No one can know the depths and mystery of the human heart.
