So the universe is your God?

Why does there have to be a "God" at all?

Because as your original meme thingy pointed out something cannot come from nothing. There needs to be a non-contingent supernatural power/force/being aka God to avoid an actual infinite regress.

God is an easy explanation to invent.
There's no work in it, just blame
everything on god and forget about
it. It's the easy way out.
Much harder to be that 16th century
mathematician who spent his
life toiling over a few theories
that were the building blocks of
modern science.

God is always the easy way out. That's
why so many churches are filled
people dumber than doorknobs blaming
Jaysus for everything in their lives.

Hey we're not dumber than doorknobs. That 16th century mathmatican was a believer.

It doesn't seem like you really have any response to these posts so maybe the mockery and name calling isn't needed. Thanks.

The really great thing is, however kooky
and off the wall your beliefs are, it
doesn't change the reality of what the
universe really is at all, or what happens
after your body dies. It's the same for
all of us, beliefs are meaningless
ultimately. They're just a way to make
a game out of life, to make us feel
important. When we aren't any more
important than the cockroach living
under your fridge.

I think that's wonderful.

Then how does your "God" come from nothing

The Jewish god (and Xtion god) Yahweh
doesn't come from nothing. He comes
from the Jews thousands of years ago
mashing together a lot of lessor gods
and combining them into one do-it-all
god, Yahweh. He's a vanilla god, very
nebulous, he can be whatever you want
him to be. Very boring.

I've done that with house paint, and added several light colored cans together.

I think if you think about my examples you will see the error in your thinking. Can you have an infinite stack of legos without something upon which they rest? Can you have motion without something causing that motion. This is the first cause or the unmoved mover and they are logical requirements for there to be anything. A more philosophical way of thinking about this would be to consider contingency. You do not have the reason for your being in yourself. You are contingent on many other things for your existence. Everything material that exists has this condition of contingency, including the universe itself. It does not have the reason for its existence in itself. It is not necessary. Therefore something non-contingent; that does have its reason for existing in itself and is not dependent on anything else is required.

Why do you say this? The one true God of the Israelites is radically different in the religious landscape than other false gods.
