Watching a rerun of chopped on Food
Network. There was a nun from a soup
kitchen. She kind of frightened me. Mid
20's, big crucifix around her neck, a
smile plastered on her face 80% of
the time. When she wasn't smiling
her head was cocked and she had
the loving listening parent look on
her face. She came across as phony,
nobody is really like that.

She mentioned a couple times how she
turned the competition 'over to god'.
Then she has something other than
herself to blame when she doesn't
win.

Believe it or not Bob there really are such good people like that out there. Even people better than you can imagine. I see them and work with them all the time.

It's an act, the goody goody
righteous act. She's playing
a part, the part of a nun.
And she was in front of a
camera, she had to turn it
on full force. There are
good people in all walks of
life, in every profession.
But most of them don't
act like preprogrammed
zombies like so many religious
people do.

She does of course believe in life after death and the triumph of God's love over evil so it probably does give her a sense of joy that is not preprogrammed or put on.

'God's love', the original oxymoron. If
that's love, what does hate and not
caring look like. All religious leaders
have a false face they put on when
they're in the role. I've seen my Baptist
minister bro in law do it. The public
expected the nun to act in a certain
way and she obliged. I was really
offended by the huge 5" crucifix she
wore. Did it have to be that big for
a cooking show? Really?

It sounds like you were offended because you don't believe folks can be so guinuely happy and Holy.

That's my point, it wasn't genuine. She
was putting on a show. Especially
with the head cocked, tiny patient
smile, with eyebrows raised. People
practice that in front of a mirror. It's
contrived and phony, and looks it.

I'm sure she's a very nice person. But
she's playing the part of a a nun when
she's in public. She knows what people
expect, and she provides it. My minister
bro is law does it too. So do you, I'm
sure you're the hail fellow well met, all
smiles and good cheer when you're around
the people who expect you to be that
way.

The maddening thing about god
is, when compared to science,
all the invisible things in science
can be proven to exist. With math,
by building equipment to measure,
or using some form of the scientific
method.

With god you have bupkis. Even
proving god with prayer is always
a bust. You'd think with god being
such a big concept, proving his
existence would be simple. My
sister is law would say, just go
outside and look around. That's god.

Sorry, no it's not. Just because
you want it to mean that doesn't
make it so. They're building an
even stronger in orbit telescope
that will see even deeper in the
galaxies than Hubble. There could
be trillions of galaxies, My suspicion
is, they never end, there's an infinite
number in a universe that's been
here forever.

Just about everything you say above makes no sense, is false, or is hopelessly prejudiced.

Sure it does. Most of the invisible things
in science, like radio waves, sound waves,
bacteria, on and on, can be proven to
exist with math or test equipment. God
is invisible and there is no way to prove
the existence of a god with science. This
would tend to make a common sense
person to believe there is no god.

I've told this story before, In the mid 19th
century a hospital doctor discovered his
patients had a much better recovery rate
if he washed his hands between surgeries.
He was called a fool and almost driven
from the profession by fellow doctors.
20 years later washing your hands was
mandatory in every hospital in the world.
Because by then science had proven the
invisible to be true.
