I think Nimoy was briefly a regular on "Mission: Impossible," bit I've no idea whether that was before or after ST TOS.

After

LN was age 35 when ST:TOS premiered, and he had been working since the age of 20 in films. But he was always a guest star or uncredited in sci-fi films. ST was his first role as a series regular.

Shatner is only 4 days older than Nimoy, and he also has his first credit at age 20. But he had a starring role in a TV series where he played a District Attorney. It was a Winter replacement show, and only lasted 13 episodes.

Is that Werner Klemperer at the end of the
clip? He was in lots of shows and movies
in bit parts.

Yes it was. The guest stars in one episode that would go on to be famous TV stars
William Shatner ...

It would be difficult to believe that they won't write in the death of Leonard Nimoy.

They did do the death of Prof. Proton...

I suppose it will involve a round of Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock.

The BBT took a serious nosedive again on Thursday, down almost 2.5 million total viewers from last year and down 1.64 in the younger demographic
04/03/2014: 4.94 for 18-49 rating 17.732 million
04/02/2015: 3.20 for 18-49 rating 13.352 million

The rating of 3.2 is it's lowest rating since Season #3 before the girls joined the cast full time. With Jim Parsons having a hit animated film it doesn't seem like the contract will be renewed again after season #10.

Still, TBBT is the highest ranked sitcom, and in the under 50 ratings only behind FOX's huge hit, Empire, a melodrama about a AA owned recording company.

In two years, TBBT and MF will probably be gone. It is not clear if the other sitcoms will so as wel without their strong lead.
Modern Family and The Middle probably won't last beyond the next two years as well.

It is looking like sitcoms are going the way of the Western.

2 The Big Bang Theory CBS 4.56
6 Modern Family ABC 3.32
10 The Odd Couple CBS 2.82 (airs after TBBT)
15 Black-ish ABC 2.39 (airs after Modern Family)
17 Mom CBS 2.36
27 The Goldbergs ABC 2.25
30 2 Broke Girls CBS 2.12
33 The Middle ABC 2.06 (season #5)
34 Mike & Molly CBS 2.02
39 Fresh Off the Boat ABC 1.86
40 The Last Man on Earth FOX 1.79
41 Brooklyn Nine-Nine FOX 1.77
42 Undateable NBC 1.71

I'm still watching the show. For me it has hit the point where I keep hoping next week will be better.

Same with me. It is still the only show on that SITCOM list that I watch within a few days of airing. But I always feel like it used to be much more clever.

It also seems as if CBS will try to keep the series going with the minor characters. It may go the way of AfterMASH, but it will probably be worth a try.

Simon Helberg ... Howard Wolowitz (183 episodes, 2007-2015)
Kunal Nayyar ... Raj Koothrappali (183 episodes, 2007-2015)
Melissa Rauch ... Bernadette Rostenkowski (113 episodes, 2009-2015)
Kevin Sussman ... Stuart Bloom (36 episodes, 2009-2015)
??
John Ross Bowie ... Barry Kripke (14 episodes, 2009-2015)
Laura Spencer ... Emily Sweeney (10 episodes, 2014-2015)

In the 50's and 60's westerns ruled. They
would be very expensive to make now,
working with horses isn't cheap. There
was still a mystique to the old west 50
years ago, that's mostly gone now. My
Great grandad and grandpa were born
in the late 1800's and all they watched
were westerns. Wagon Train, Rawhide,
Bonanza, Annie Oakley, Maverick, Have
Gun Will Travel, and their absolute
favorite, Gunsmoke. They loved Gunsmoke.

All they read were pulp westerns, by the
boxfull. That generation is long long gone,
we'll never see westerns like that again.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.
