Mark Harmon first appeared on the final show of the sitcom Ozzie's Girls in 1973. He had his first lead in a TV series on 24 May 1977. Now at the age of 63 having been probably one of the most successful TV drama actors for over 40 years, he is still not being paid anywhere near what Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki earned in 7 years on the show.

Sitcoms have always been the road to the top of the pay chart (for scripted television).

JIM PARSON'S SALARY
$60,000 per episode (2007-2010)
$200,000 per episode (2010-2011)
$250,000 per episode (2011-2012)
$300,000 per episode (2012-2013
$350,000 per episode + 0.25 point of series' backend money (2013-2014)
$1,000,000 per episode + more than 1 point of the series' backend money (2014-2017)

Has hell frozen over? Look who the big
star is in this new comedy.

My point was Richard Dreyfus has lowered himself
to bad TV comedy.

Well, he probably snorted most of his big money away. Robin Williams is by far the biggest movie star to return to a television series.

The BBT took a serious nosedive again on Thursday, down almost 2.5 million total viewers from last year and down 1.64 in the younger demographic

I'm still watching the show. For me it has hit the point where I keep hoping next week will be better.

Last Thursday's episode was noticeably bad, as if it was written and/or directed by someone new who had never seen the show before.

I want more Stewart at the comic book store! He's such a sad sack, and gets some of the best lines.

The producers shouldn't have let Kaley Cuoco chop off her beautiful hair. That should've been in her contract. No wonder she got no screen time on Thursday.

That may not be the most critical career advice she is getting. Given her fame, you would think she would try and do a big movie. Since TBBT began, Jim Parsons now has two animated parts to his credit. Johnny Galecki has small parts in some big movies. But KC seems content to do very tiny offbeat films.

Jim Parsons

2015 The Master Cleanse (post-production)
2013 CBGB
2011 In Time
2009 Table for Three
2008 Hancock

Kaley Cuoco
2015 Burning Bodhi (post-production)
2015 The Wedding Ringer
2014 Authors Anonymous
2013 Bratz: Go to Paris the Movie (Video)

Remember one time Penny tells Leonard her plan was to waitress for six months then become a movie star? When Leonard asks what her backup plan is, Penny answers "TV star."

I mention this because Kaley Cuoco has pretty much reached the top of TV stardom at a young age. Consider she's worked with John Ritter and Alyssa Milano, and then starred in her own hit sitcom. She's pretty much set for fame and money, unless she does something really stupid, and can focus on what interests her more. Perhaps she can follow on Debra Messing's footsteps and try on a TV drama next.

Let's look at Friends co-stars who had two years of $1 million episode salary

Jennifer Aniston - movie star (28 films with 15 after Friends off air)
Lisa Kudrow - Two TV series (Web Therapy and The Comeback ) plus character parts in films like Neighbors/Easy A/Hotel for Dogs
Courteney Cox - Two TV series ( Dirt Cougar Town), multiple roles in films and guest appearances
David Schwimmer- small R rated movies, TV episodes with old co stars. voice work for Madagascar animated trilogy
Matthew Perry - Four TV series (The Odd Couple, Go On Mr. Sunshine, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip ) plus other roles in TV and films
Mat Le Blanc - Joey spin off TV series (2 years) then vanishes for 7 years. Episodes (TV Series on showtime) , straight to DVD film Lovesick

So after TBBT with three years of $1 million / episode salary. Presumably the ratings may drop but it will still be #1 sitcom on TV. Will they continue with full cast? It doesn't seem likely as Jim Parsons will almost certainly want to move on to movies. Probably they will try a spin off series, as no sitcom that successful has failed to produce a spin-off.

Without Sheldon, the show's over.

I'm sure they will. I wonder what they can do, short of introducing spinoff characters late in the last season.

A successful spinoff, IMO, requires a known character in a completely different show. Contrast "Frasier" with "Three's a Crowd." A rather far out idea that might work would be to have Raj try a different career (culinary chemistry?), or Howard going back to school to get a Ph.D.
