I liked it and watched all the aired episodes.

On the plus side, they got to do an episode with Joel Grey.

BTW, the actress I named is A.J. Langer, not Lang.

I love the Showtime series "Episodes", a vulgar sitcom about a British couple who are TV writers in the UK with a hit show starring Richard Griffiths. They are seduced into coming to LA to recreate their show for an American audience and told they can keep their actor. But once here the boarding school setting is recast, and they hire Matt LeBlanc for the part, but they are forced to rewrite the part so that he is a hockey coach.Matt wins a Golden Globe for his self parody.

I am surprised to see that Jennifer Grey did a similar self parody in "It's Like, You Know..." over a decade earlier.

I'm surprised more than three people remember that show.

I watched a short documentary called "Seinfeld, the Breakthrough Season"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA6lwzh1Tbc

It documents the episodes that everyone talked about, especially "The Contest"

Finally on episode #56 in February 1993 NBC realizes that Cheers will end in May, and they move Seinfeld from Wednesday night to after "Cheers" on Thursday to see if Seinfeld can be the replacement for Cheers.

Of course, we all know the ratings soar and it becomes a monster hit for the remaining 5 years.

But, what was interesting was the sentences they use to describe the show before it moves. Like "if nobody is watching on us Wednesdays, I don't want to go to Thursday and have nobody watch us on Thursday".

But even before it moved, it had better ratings than TBBT does today.

The 90's was pre cable stations original
programing and reality shows. I had
cable and still watched mostly network
TV. Especially on Thurs night.

2002: 28 original dramas and 6 comedies on premium and basic cable,
2007: 42 original dramas and 17 comedies,
2012: 77 original dramas and 48 comedies.

But there were syndicated shows competing in the 1990's. Star Trek: The Next Generation, which debuted in 1987 and became one of the most watched syndicated shows throughout its seven-year run. Baywatch, which debuted in 1989 on NBC and was canceled after one season also became one of the most watched syndicated shows throughout its ten-year-run, garnering a worldwide audience.
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and its spin-off series Xena: Warrior Princess helped build the audiences for such shows.

I didn't start watching reality TV until 2003
with American Chopper. After that, the
genre exploded.

The first real reality show, it launched
a generation of the things. It's longevity
is due to it being unscripted, unlike most
reality shows. But they have to shoot
huge amount of film just to get 22min
to put on the air. All because of a
SAG strike in the late 80's.
