Is Starbucks too expensive?

But to be fair, I did get a free Americano just before my last race, and it did the trick, and was better, but then I find getting jacked up on caffiene and sugar helps me run anyways.

Sometimes companies improve the quality of a product but say nothing about it. Coffee is a good example.

Some years ago I tried plain coffee from a 7-11 and drnak it all only because of the caffeine. Since then I've avoided it like the plague. Then a few weeks ago I was in urgent need of caffeine with only a 7-11 handy. It was ok. not good, not coffee I'd gladly pay for, but definitely drinkable. Call it a smidgen better than common instant coffee.

I will drink practically any kind of coffee. Mcdonalds will serve what they have on the burner, cold, hot, old, and they will brew fresh, but often will serve whatever is there so that will serve as the impression of it. It is not expensive though. It is better than whatever they serve in Station Casinos diners. Or perhaps they never clean the pots there. Perhaps they really filter dish water. Perhaps they import cheap coffee cut with dirt. I haven't figured it out, but I don't like the taste of it, even fresh.

Their nice restaurants use good coffee though. (just the diner all night ones suck)

I am not a big coffee drinker, but occasionally it is nice to sit and chat with a friend in a relatively low cost, non alcohol environment. I feel I am paying more for the place than the actual coffee itself. For around $2 I get a double shot espresso decaf.

As office suites declined, Seattle coffee shops took up the slack and became defacto meeting places for getting a job done efficiently. Three women who wanted to buy a large warehouse on a city block and turn it into artist's studios did the paperwork and funding at a small bagel and coffee place bringing their draft agreements with them. No crowds, no alcohol, a small alcove all to themselves, pleasant art work on the walls.... and no lawyers! Project completed in record time.

When you consider just the coffee it seems expensive. However, I've used Starbucks as a place to have meetings lots of times, including with WoV members. It is a nice comfortable quiet place. Sometimes if I urgently need a bathroom I'll duck into a Starbucks and nobody ever barks at me "You need to buy something!" All things considered, I'm okay with paying $4 for a coffee there, considering the fringe benefits.

For the person who voted that it is roasted too dark, you should try coffee in the Dominican Republic. Normally I like a strong coffee, but I had to have my DR coffee mixed with 1/3 milk just to be able to be able to drink it.

For people who are used to drinking Coors Light, and once in a while try Michelob as a gourmet treat, their eyes are opened the first time they try Anchor Steam, and realize now THAT'S what beer can be. That's what Starbucks is to people used to drinking Folgers at home all the time. Is it worth it? Those $4 drinks really add up if you get it to and from work every day, in my opinion. I like a good strong cuppa-joe, but my thrifty self can make gourmet at home sooooo much cheaper. I don't care about the Starbucks atmosphere and biscuits.

Strong has nothing to do with roast. Starbucks' coffee, unadulterated by milk, cream or ice, tastes as though it's been burnt.

Isn't it supposed to? Kind of like an Oreo?
