I think Cook felt that the consensus is to be considered so obvious that, yes, you can just assume it is so, even in the face of controversy, therefore you can just fake a study and no person who wants to 'signal virtue' would dare question it.

That kind of crap really bothers me and says quite a bit about a person it doesn't bother ... but the development that bothers me the most is the recent one that has the quite clear assertion that we are also going to have to give up meat as well! that one really has me going. This is not about saving the planet, it's about accepting the virtuous lifestyle laid out by the kooks who have dreamed this up. Solar energy, vegan diet, socialist economy, identity politics, you name it, and it all is to be justified by science that is not to be questioned, which is to say science that is bad science by definition.

You're really combining a lot of stuff. I don't think socialism is any more the realm of scientists than anything else. Scientist are studying food, but every popular vegan idea is not by a scientist. You also have to contend with companies who are only interested in studies that confirm their product is great.

No profession is any more perfect than any other. Not sure why scientist should get a bad rap.

As for giving up meat. Not sure scientist are the majority of PETA membership. Don't know though, just doubt it.

Maybe, but no astronaut depended on a device from blowhard conservative talk show host to get to the Moon. Or liberal. Yet all feel compelled to tell us right and wrong as if they know something.

NASA collects the satellite images that are used by 'science' to prove their theories when it is convenient but climate scientist conveniently don't bother mentioning the images that don't support climate change. At least NASA is generally honest enough to publish all the data whether is supports climate change or not.

It has nothing to do with astronaut's opinions.

no one mentioned an astronaut's opinion except you.

Sorry Duffman, this study only goes back to 1950.

Quote:
The study shows that while the oceans warmed steadily between 1955 and 1986, warming has accelerated rapidly in the last few decades. Between 1987-2019, ocean warming was 450% greater than during the earlier time period.

An international team of 14 scientists examined data going back to the 1950s, looking at temperatures from the ocean surface to 2,000 meters deep. The study, was published in the journal Advances in Atmospheric Sciences,

Quote:
Lijing Cheng, the paper's lead author and an associate professor at the International Center for Climate and Environmental Sciences at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said the ocean temperature was 0.075 degrees Celsius above the 1981-2010 average in 2019.

"There are no reasonable alternatives aside from the human emissions of heat trapping gases to explain this heating," Cheng said, adding that to reach this temperature, the ocean would have taken in 228,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 -- or 228 sextillion -- joules of heat.

"The Hiroshima atom-bomb exploded with an energy of about 63,000,000,000,000 Joules," Cheng said. "I did a calculation ... the amount of heat we have put in the world's oceans in the past 25 years equals to 3.6 billion Hiroshima atom-bomb explosions," he added.

That's equivalent to dropping roughly four Hiroshima bombs into the oceans every second over the past quarter of a century. But because the warming is speeding up, the rate at which we are dropping these imaginary bombs is getting faster than ever.

Which means it has no bearing on long term trends.

So, you read that and thought it was nothing. So sad. I don't prefer any extremes. Why is that even relevant?

It is nothing. When we settled the western USA insects routinely would come and strip a season of crops bare. Why do you think it was somehow something special this time?

No, it doesn't mean nothing. Not to people affected.

And if you're doing something to help encourage such a thing, then just saying, la de da, it means nothing is acting clueless.

If you want, we can also go back 200 years and enjoy tornados and hurricanes without warnings. No reason to do anything, according to you. We can enjoy smallpox all over again. Why do anything?
