DRich Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 51 Posts: 4965 | It is a nice week in Las Vegas. Around 108 every day which isn't too bad for Vegas. When it gets over 110 it is hot. My upstairs air conditioner went out on Sunday. First quote was $6200 to replace it but hopefully I can patch it back together for a couple hundred dollars. It is hard to sleep upstairs when it is 91 degrees when I go to bed. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent. |

70 in W MI, summer is here. On days like this we would pack a lunch in the late 50's and my sister and I would find a creek to play in and my parents didn't know where we were and cared even less. Nobody kept track of their kids then. Just be home for supper was the rule. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

petroglyph Member since: Aug 3, 2014 Threads: 25 Posts: 6227 | Now that I've sold my camper, I wonder if my ac will die on me? It was my back up plan for if my ac dies, we could just turn the ac on in the camper until the house one is repaired or replaced. Now I suppose I will have to go find a motel, because I couldn't endure not having ac. Soon the temp is predicted to be in the teens. Got my pool light fixed. Or I should say, my wife wanted it fixed, apparently pretty badly. I didn't know that the conduit for the light was already built in, so all the pool guys did is pull one out, and pull another one in. The last official act of any government is to loot the treasury. petroglyph Member since: Aug 3, 2014 Threads: 25 Posts: 6227 | Kids don't ride bicycles anymore, at least where I've been the last few decades? We rode everywhere, unless we walked. My folks told us, be home for supper or you miss it. Only missed it once or twice, after that we knew when to be home. i'm sure many things that were common are now considered child abuse. I've read of children being taken away because a mom let her kids play in a back fenced yard without supervision. The last official act of any government is to loot the treasury. GW |

My little known fact about AC (as I know very little about them in general) is a bigger AC than you need is not better. It turns on and off too much. Like goldilocks you need one just right. You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really? |

Water, Food, Shelter, AC. Not necessarily in that order. |

I'm sure Evenbob remembers living in the days before AC. You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really? |

No seat belts, no car seats for toddlers. You could leave your kids in the car when it's 90 and nobody cared. When I was 8 years old in 3rd grade, I had to walk home 20 min before school let out to watch my 2 year old brother while my mom went to work. I did that the whole school year. In 3rd grade I was in charge of the home burn barrel, strike anywhere kitchen matches, unsupervised. Parents could beat their kids every day, nobody cared. My mom made us cut switches from the yard cherry tree that would leave large welts on our legs. I often went to the local store for the lady next door for cigarettes. 7 years old, nobody at the store said a word. Lots of new houses going up in the 50's, playing at the building sites after they went home was a blast. Nobody cared. There were no adults with kids over 5 trick or treating, just gangs of kids running door to door. On Saturday my parents would drop us kids off at the movies or the roller rink and come back hours later for us. They where both full of just kids, no adults. Try any of this now and they'll take your kids away from you. How did we ever survive. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
