People happily pay the money to go from Secaucus to NY to the subway system.

I agree, but right now there is not much support to extending the subway. So commuters have to drive or take NJ Trains to a PATH station, pay for a PATH train to get into Manhattan, and then pay for MTA subway to get to their final destination.

Parking is $150/month and up. And then there's the time factor, often adding a solid 1/2 hour at rush hour to get into Manhattan. And getting your car out of a garage always takes a few minutes.... it's never self-park. People happily pay the money to go from Secaucus to NY to the subway system.

$150 a month in Manhattan?!

That does seem a little optimistic. It's $195 at the PATH station in Harrison, NJ although you might be able to save 30% by walking further and parking outdoors.

Up until about 6 hours ago, I had never heard of the SoloWheel. And then today a man on the sidewalk whizzed passed me on one. My eyes just about popped out of my head. Envision a battery-powered unicycle with no peddles and no seat.

The Segway hasn't exactly been a runaway hit (none of my friends or family own one.) I wonder if the SoloWheel will be a bit more popular: cheaper, smaller, easier to carry on a subway, elevator, escalator, etc.

Hmm. Twenty five pounds, and up to 10 mph. It looks like it takes a little bit of training to use. The description says it takes some skill to get up curbs, as you are counting on curb cuts most of the time.

I like the idea that you use them on the sidewalk. It seems a lot safer.

The original design is $2K, but the knock-offs are as cheap as $400. There is a warning that the knock-offs are unsafe.

Thank you for that introduction.

Also note that the Segway motors are noisy compared to Solowheel that pigeons do not even hear coming.

A few less pigeons.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

Gee, if you're in great condition, between the
ages of 16 and 24, this is ideal. You might
not kill yourself. Robert Atkins, of Atkins
Diet fame, died when he slipped and fell
in NYC and hit his head on a curb. This
thing might have ended his life decades
ago it it had been around then.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Sorry, Paco was doing two people per car, so $300/month. Icon Parking in Manhattan has those specials posted at some of their parking garages throughout NYC.

For a day trip parking at Harrison is $11 for 12 hours, (indoor & short walk) and then it is $2.50 per person each way to take the PATH train into Manhattan. It's 22-24 minutes to World Trade Center, and add 8-10 minutes to change to go to midtown. The 33rd street terminus is near Empire State Building and Herald Square.

It may be the most practical way to get 2 miles to the train station, and then another 2 miles to your office.
