The FBI are now in the cross hairs of Trumpers and they are absolutely livid.
At least a few on the right have some common sense.

Wonder why Merrick didn't include the unsealing of the affidavit for probable cause in his motion?

What if the judge just denies the Motion? Merrick gets a get out of jail free card.

This better be about more than returning documents to the National Archives.
Merrick needs probable cause related to a significant crime or he is going to look like a political hack.
A former President possessing "Classified Documents" is a bit of a nothing burger unless you can pin them to a crime.
Now if you produce documents that concretely connect Donny to planning a J6th storming of the Capitol, that could work.
But if it is all just circumstantial and you don't have the goods, well, add this to:

There is no need for the AG to explain or justify anything at this time, but I am fine if he chooses to do so and it is allowed.

Makes sense to seal the affidavit which lays out the probable cause at this time; be patient, it will come out eventually.

It is a crime in and of itself to violate the Presidential Records Act, without more.

Of course, if they find a smoking gun there with his love letters from Putin...well, so much the better.

And there’s no Republican congress members to stymie any conviction.

One thing claimed by the trump team made me laugh. The idea that Trump has been cooperating. When Trump isn’t filing motions against something, he’s stonewalling, and when he’s not stonewalling, he’s slow walking. He may have given the finger to the legal system one too many times. That may very well have been what caught up with him here. He literally may have been f****** with the records requirement for no real reason except to piss off one more authority and garland finally had enough.
