It has been said by many people - war can be used as a distraction from domestic problems.

why test new weapons just use up the old ones and buy more.

Because new weapons is what keeps us
a superpower, constant change and
innovation. The attitude you espouse
is what 3rd world dictatorships do.

It could be the military industrial complex
keeping us in Afghanistan. It helps the
economy for private industry, and gives
the military a constant place to test new
weapons on real targets in real time. And
we're really dug in there, been there 18
years and counting. That's a helluva long
time.

Wouldn't be the fifth time, but does not seem big enough a war. My money is still onbeing a staging area to keep Pakistan or/Iran in line.

I think that's a safe bet.

I'm glad that someone was able to convince him that pulling out and leaving the whole region as a safe haven for terrorists wasn't a good idea.

Two guys, different as night and day, want to get out as a matter of policy. Both cave and forget it. Either one of them does, well it happens. Both?

There used to be a thing, probably still is, where a new POTUS got sat down and was shown all the targets the USA had in USSR and USSR presumed to have in the USA. Nuke targets. The smallest places were targets for any kind of reason. Baker, CA, to knock out that thermometer. Whatever. Then they get told how we need all these nuke sites, 48 states had them IIRC, since having just a few would make it all meaningless. One could knock out most of the B-52 fleet, etc. After this they invariably got with the program.

Trump is no peacenick liberal loon. He seemed to have had my opinion, namely wtf are we still doing there playing around? I was hoping we would leave and give the message we are not losing good lives after bad. I agree, someone told him something.

That's what I said. Somebody explained a
reality to both of them that neither can
deny. We don't know what that is, but
it sure as hell is convincing.

Reality: It is a stupid reason to change announcers no matter who thought of it.

What's next? Switching from Dixie Cups to another cup vendor?
