17th seat held by a republican lost to a democrat in a special election since Trump's inauguration.

http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/373735-dems-flip-seat-in-florida-state-special-election?amp

Republicans freaking out over 2018 elections, warning Trump of "bloodbath" - many articles about those topics, suggest google "Republicans scared 2018"

And still, Trump driving up the deficit, cutting programs he said he wouldn't cut, and cutting taxes for the rich which he also said he wouldn't cut.

But what does Bob want to talk about? His opinions on presidential portraits and rumors of Clinton's sexuality?

The righties loved to brag about all the state seats the GOP flipped under Obama.

The reverse happens under Donald, and it's "nothing to see here!"

Why don't those matter?

In the realm of "states rights", those are the people who are making the rules that the people in their state live under. In an environment of a smaller federal government, and de-regulation, they become more and more significant, more and more important.

They are the ones who control how easy or how hard it is to get an abortion, how easy or how hard it is to get a CCW, how tax-heavy or tax-light the state is, and a ton of other issues that are important to democrats and republicans.

They are the ones controlling the state board of education, what gets taught, how much funding goes to public schools and universities, public roads, infrastructure, whether or not you can drill for oil on your own land, whether or not an Enron pipeline can run through the state, and work with or against the governor to get all of that done.

Enron pipeline? How would that happen? They went out of business 15+ years ago.

It "does not matter" because it is a local election, having little if anything to do with Trump.

Now, if 100+ seats per year flip, like they did under Obama, then maybe you have something.

To be fair, I believe I brought up the possibility of sex as a possible cause for HRC's continued coughing. It wasn't said derogatorily. I personally don't care what sex she prefers, but yes there have been rumors for decades. If we considered the sexual proclivity's of Anthony Weiner, [Huma Abedin's husband] there is a distinct, maybe?

that was just an example of how state governments can regulate oil and energy, outside of federal regulations. I wasn't trying specifically to use only current examples.

It has a lot to do with a potential Trump backlash.

I again refer to this article:

Quote:
After years of strong gains in states across the country, Republicans now fear they stand to lose hundreds of state legislative seats in next year’s midterm elections if there is a significant voter backlash against President Trump.

Any losses would come at the worst time: Just ahead of the redistricting process that begins with the 2020 census.

Hmm, howabout that? State legislators in charge of redistricting. that can hardly be important...

Are you talking state, or federal?
At the federal level:
High point: 2009 - 58 senators + 257 representatives = 315
Low point: 2017 - 44 senators + 188 representatives = 232
difference = 83

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_divisions_of_United_States_Congresses

This site has the state numbers, if you want to do a year-over-year comparison
https://ballotpedia.org/Partisan_composition_of_state_houses#Cumulative_numbers

That shows hundreds and hundreds of seats changing hands.

The GOP was worried about a "Trump Backlash" the entire way. It never happened. The GOP seems to prefer to lose, not understanding at all even now why Trump won. Just more establishment hiring consultants with a ton of losing campaigns run on their resume.

See above. The GOP does not know how to win, so I do not place much faith in them. Trump showed them how to win and it did not involve piles of data and roomfuls of consultants. It involved understanding what the people want.

All levels. By 2016 the GOP was the most powerful in 100 years. The joke goes that the GOP should be naming things after Obama, not the Dems. From a high point of course you will lose some seats. Smart GOP pols embrace, not run from, Trump. With friends like the GOP Establishment, Trump doesn't even need the Democrats.

Cell phone frequencies had some delays. Many students were shifted from room to room as police and administrators kept vacillating on the safety of perimeter versus interior rooms.
