FrGamble, do you ever go to the prisons, or is that a specific position?
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

One of the requirements of confession is contrition or feeling sorry..there is what is called "imperfect contrition".. Then there is what is called "perfect contrition" .. We don't need to cry and beat our breast in sorrow for it to be true contrition.

Are you kidding me with this?
It all sounds like BS contrition
to me. Nobody is ever really
sorry for anything they've done.
Oh, they're sorry they got caught,
sorry they have to say they're
sorry. But they don't really feel
sorry.

Bob, I don't think you are human if you believe that.

It is a specific position, but I do go on occasion.

One of the requirements of confession is contrition or feeling sorry, but there is no real measure for this and God accepts whatever type of contrition we can give them. For example there is what is called "imperfect contrition" and this is really just feeling sorry because we do not want to lose Heaven or experience the pains of Hell. Then there is what is called "perfect contrition" and this is expressing sorrow for our sins mainly just because they offend God whom we should love above all things. The actual feelings involved in any type of contrition are varied depending on the person. We don't need to cry and beat our breast in sorrow for it to be true contrition.

Sounds like most of us will be in the middle.

Not everyone is a sociopath.

I've seldom see anyone actually say
they're sorry for what they did. They're
sorry you're upset, they're sorry it
didn't work out, they're sorry you
took what they said the wrong way.
But actual contrition, actual feelings
of 'I did wrong and I'm so sorry', I
just don't see that. They mostly are
trying to smooth things over with
empty words.

Generally agree. There are probably rare examples of contrition, but that is what they are, rare.
I once called someone stupid and was asked to say "sorry". I reluctantly did.
"I am sorry you are stupid".......

People don't like being wrong, and
like even less apologizing for it. I
love how the Church has it broken
down into different levels of
contrition, like they're ever going
to to see real true contrition more
than a couple times during their
entire careers as priests.

Charleston Heston said the secret
to a long marriage is learning
fake contrition and using it on your
wife dozens of times a day. Be sorry
for everything, frequently.

It is true that people don't like being wrong. However, give someone a space where they know they will not be judged, where they will be reminded of their worth, where they will be loved no matter what they have done, and a place of absolute confidentiality and believe me you will hear true contrition all the time.
