It looks as if the first contract was let in Mexico City to begin site preparation for the airport. With an increase in passengers of 8.6%, MEX was the fifth fastest growing of the top 50 airports in the world.

Obrador is being called the front runner in the presidential election, and he has vowed to kill the new airport. He has some vague plan about building two new runways at a military base 30 miles away and connecting them somehow to the current airport. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-16/mexico-s-slim-defends-13-billion-airport-attacked-by-candidate The idea of additional remote runways and keeping the current airport open is periodically discussed. Las Vegas is a good example. Brown Field airport is about 12 miles from the current airport in San Diego and has been operating since 1918. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_Field_Municipal_Airport |

Between now and July first lie a few eternal periods. this is politics.
I'd bet a large sum if he gets elected, the new airport gets built more or less on schedule. Whatever there is in what passes for his mind, will be far more expensive than continuing the project to its conclusion. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |
