I'll get ahead of the facts and call it "not successful."

BTW, this was a joint venture with the Russian space agency. This brings up to zero the number of successful Russian probe missions to mars (though they've done quite well on Venus)

That last countdown from 500 meters down it seemed to still be going over 220mph until it got around 100 meters.

Rumors that life on Mars may be discovered in the next 2 years by either the European rover or the USA one.

Seems to be based on the ability of life to survive in extreme conditions, and these newer rovers ability to dig and analyze core soil samples much deeper than before.

Still that would be an enormous discovery, even if only microbes.
