Doesn't something bad happen to the party if he gets less than 1%? They lose access to public campaign cash, don't they? I'm not wearing any pants, film at 11 |

No, they don't even have that money now. They have to get over 5% to have access to public campaign cash in the next election, and at that level the path to ballot access is also MUCH easier (GJ is not on the ballot in Michigan or Oklahoma, but fared much better this year than Bob Barr last time around). Hence Johnson's "Give me 5" campaign. It's a smart move by him, because it is shedding light on the fact that even though he is guaranteed to lose, a vote for him actually has some tangible chance of affecting something. I know the 5% thing influenced a few of my friends to vote for him and not feel it was a total "waste." In 2008, Bob Barr was on the ballot in only 44 states and managed 0.40% of the popular vote. I think Johnson will easily beat that this year for a few reasons: *more likable/voteable than Barr, who was regarded as a flip-flopper and not a true Libertarian *more ballot access *no Ralph Nader. Jill Stein just doesn't have the name recognition I would love it if he got 5%, but it just ain't gonna happen. I'd be ecstatic with 2-3%, but I predict somewhere between 1-2%.
