Some of them I know will be great, some of them I'm hoping will be great, and some of them I know won't be that good, but I want to see them anyhow. Now in theaters, Gone Girl The Drop The Skeleton Twins The Good Lie St Vincent (It isn't getting good reviews, but Bill Murray.) Fury (Brad Pitt. Tanks, WW2.) Birdman (Michael Keaton, Emma Stone. The previews look great.) Rudderless (Don't know much about it.) Nightcrawler (Jake Gyllenhaal. Looks great and creepy as hell.) Interstellar (Matthew McConaughey tries to save the world. Trailer looks good.) Theory of Everything (Hawking biopic. Biopics are for the acting, not the standard story arc they all share.) Foxcatcher (The wrestling murders in Philly. Steve Carrell as a villain.) Inherent Vice (Paul Thomas Anderson. It will be either great or wretched. My bet is on great.) Wild (Reese Witherspoon walks across Australia.) American Sniper (A sniper.) The Imitation Game (Turing biopic. Probably breaks the biopic mold.) Whiplash (Jazz drummer becomes obsessed. It's getting raves. Probably won't be in wide release.) Rosewater (Jon Stewart directs. Good story, weak telling, still want to see it.) Zero Motivation (Israeli film about women soldiers. Strong buzz.) Clouds of Sils Maria (Artsy Fartsy looking thing with All About Eve overtones.) Unbroken (Great book about Louie Zamperini. Directed by Angelina Jolie. Previews look good.) The Gambler (Remake of 1974 film of the same name. Might be good, might suck.) Tomorrowland (Early 2015. Clooney in a time travel thing. Could go either way.) Any additions? Subtractions? |

I read this book last spring. It was fantastic. If you can get through the first 30 pages of tremendous emotional heartache, it's tough to put down. The book is an account of the author's hike north on the Pacific Crest Trail to the Washington border....but the movie's in Australia? Didn't know that. And Reese Witherspoon is too old for the role (author Cheryl Strayed was early 20s), but I'll still see it. |

terapined Member since: Aug 6, 2014 Threads: 73 Posts: 11791 | What movies the last couple of years would you all recommend? Too be honest, the few movies I have watched the last year or 2 have been somewhat disappointing. I liked the hobbit movies but that's about it. I just don't remember any recent great movies. For instance American Hustle, my opinion, about the worst movie I have ever seen. Flying to Vegas Sat. Want to load a couple movies on my tablet. Any suggestions? Aw man, I loved American Hustle. You probably wouldn't like any of my suggestions! The links below take you to the trailers, to help you decide. Mrs and I both liked Chef. It's a "little" movie, but beautifully shot and with good characters. Lots of food porn. A Most Wanted Man is worth watching. John LeCarre story. Phillip Seymour Hoffman's last film. He's great in it. |

Rosamund Pike. Excellent in Jack Reacher and good in The World's End. It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die.... it's called Life |

Do you enjoy action shoot-em ups? If so, a 2011 Indonesian film called, "The Raid", aka, "The Raid: Redemption" was surprisingly good. It is non-stop bloody action. Pacific Rim was fun, if you enjoy giant robot fighting monsters. I enjoyed the "X-men" movies. Even the rebooted, "Next Generation" ones. |

terapined Member since: Aug 6, 2014 Threads: 73 Posts: 11791 | Thanks for all the ideas Worlds End, The Raid and A Most Wanted man look very interesting. I will probabbly watch these. Jack Reacher, well I read alot of the books and I cant picture Tom Cruise as the big huge badass Jack Reacher. Saw Pacific Rim, it was entertaining but I thought just too over the top. Planning on downloading IP Man. Anybody here seen it? Looks interesting and plan on watching it on flights or layover this weekend plus 1 or 2 of the above interesting suggestions Sometimes we live no particular way but our own - Grateful Dead "Eyes of the World" |
