By 'people' you mean the Catholics and
then the Protestants, correct?

Yes, I mean everyone.

Jesus never said he was celibate, nor
ever hinted that anybody should be.
The Church decided they wanted him
to be celibate, so he was celibate.

I was going to say that, but didn't because I was afraid somebody would challenge me and I didn't want to have to defend the position.

That has never stopped Evenbob before.

In no Gospel or apocryphal writing or in any other text is a wife mentioned. Read Jesus' teaching on marriage and what He responds to the disciples with when they complain it is too hard. Jesus points out that some are celibate for the sake of the Kingdom. He also speaks of the greatest love which is laying down your life for others. This He does for you, me, and the whole world. If you want to think of Him as married think of the notion that He says to you right now, "In good times and in bad, in sickness and health, I will love you forever,"

So what. My brother has no wife,
should I assume he's celibate? It
says nowhere in the NT Jesus was
celibate, the Church wants it to
be true because it fits their narrative.

It's no big deal. That's what Xtions have
done since Jesus died. Make things
up about him and proclaim them true.
They call it the NT. That you're still
making things up is par for the course.
That's why it's such a phony baloney
religion.

It seems here Evenbob that you are making something up about Jesus to fit your narrative. Oh well, you have been doing this forever. Do you care to provide evidence against Scripture, Tradition, the witness of His disciples, and history. Seems like a pretty big thing to know about the 2nd person of the Most Holy Trinity.

Mike Graves, a theology professor at St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri, says about the idea that Jesus was married, "There's nothing to contradict that claim in Scripture, no reference to his being celibate per se."

So the Church makes up the
story that fits their agenda.
Very convenient.

You are making a big jump without any evidence Bob, but as an atheist that is what you are best at.

And you're not? There is zero
evidence Jesus was celibate.
In fact, I've read it would have
very odd for a rabbi, which
Jesus was, to be 30 and unmarried.
It was unheard of 2000 years ago.
