Okay Bob here is where we can come to agreement: The so called Dark Ages were called that because the mistaken and limited information

Or lack of information. There were no
libraries in the 12th century where
you could look things up. 700 AD
would have been dark to them, info
wise. So they called it that and it
was later misunderstood to mean
it was a time darkness for the people
who lived there. Not so.

Why you thought something else is
the real mystery.

Wow. I knew Timbuktu was a center of trade and commerce but never knew of the libraries. It seems to have adopted Arabic
language and education methods. Were these traveling Arabscholars or natives?

I think it was run by the locals, but they collected stuff from all over the place. I think I hear the cue for Paco's entrance.

I know salt was a preservative not a flavoring but why was it the bulk of the spice trade? Salt made in China wended its way along the silk roads to Europe... that is one heck of a long trip.

In the part of the world they
were in. They would have nothing
on Europe in the early Middle
Ages, how could they. Europe
had had almost nothing on that
era, and they lived there.

Vatican Cancels US Bishops’ Vote on Sex-Abuse Reform Measures

The instruction to delay consideration of a new ‘Code of Conduct’ for bishops, creation of a lay-led investigative body came directly from the Holy See.

Here ya go, the bishops want to
take action on the problem and
the pope says nope nope nope.
He wanted to cancel the meeting
entirely. This is how seriously the
Vatican takes the 'problem' of
child abuse among priests. The
pope even called a whistle blower
archbishop 'satan' a few months
ago. lol

Is there a policy in the church that a minor and adult should never be in the same place alone? When I worked at a summer camp for troubled teens, we had such a policy, although it was extremely difficult to enforce 100% of the time. The thinking, which I agree with, was they should never be put in a situation where it was the kid's word against one staff member's over anything. There should always be at least one witness to anything, especially of a discipline nature.

Despite this policy, there were still shananigans going on. None involving me, but some of it was quite scandalous. I've been meaning to write something about it for years.

Even if there was it wouldn't matter.
There is a cult of abusive priests
and they look out for one another,
so two of them alone with a kid
would be useless as a deterrent.
They pass the names of abused
kids around so other priests can
get at them too. I posted about
this a few months ago.
