The Church apologized to Galileo 400
years after he dies. They never really
apologize as we understand the word,
because to them they're never wrong.

Saw the movie Spotlight the other night.
The most amazing thing was the machine
the Church had in place to keep the rampant
pedophilia hidden from the public. They
had cops, judges, politicians all in their
pocket to just bury the stories. Their idea
was to not get rid of the offending priest,
just keep shuttling him from parish to parish
when he acted out again. It was none of
our business, they consider themselves so
far above everybody else. It would still be
going on if the big story hadn't come out.

No it wouldn't still be going on even if thank God the big story hadn't come out. As we understand more and more about the disorder of pedophilia and the psychosexual problems of people and how deep seated they are the Church would have changed its naïve and dangerous method of moving these priests and hoping against hope they didn't act out again. The Church needed to apologize and needed to actually do something about the problem. The Church now has in place a screening process for its employees, priests, and volunteers second to none. I continue to hope that other organizations from public schools to workplaces would implement similar programs so we can continue to raise awareness about the scourge of child abuse and stomp it out from our society.

In this case as well the Church needs to do more than apologize when it comes to homosexuals. Along with this apology we can raise awareness of ministries the Church provides for its homosexual brothers and sisters. It can reiterate that have a same-sex attraction is not something that is sinful in itself. We can speak about against prejudice and the unfair treatment of homosexuals. The problem is though that we cannot apologize for the Church's teaching. We cannot apologize for truth. The truth is that the two men or two women cannot be married and cannot have biological children in a normal way. The truth is that the male body was not created to naturally engage in sexual behavior with another male. The truth is that all other things being the same it is better to place a child for adoption with a mom and a dad rather than with two dads or two moms.

So I agree with Nareed there needs to be more than just an apology, however the Church or the Pope cannot apologize and should not do so for the reality of truth.

1) I wish one day you'll experience this kind of degrading, oppressive and mean-spirited treatment. Then tell me you like being punched in the face while your assailant tells you he's sorry and he loves you.

2) When you rely on no objective evidence and impose arbitrary standards, which just happen to coincide with widely held prejudice, you can declare anything to be "the reality of truth," and impose whatever you want on whoever won't fight you back. Like slavery, mass murder, subjugation, oppression and all those things the church thinks can be brushed aside with an apology decades or centuries after the fact.

Do you wonder why I won't touch religion with a ten-foot pole attached to a stick as wide as the universe?

Once again the pope shows such loving
tolerance by unloading on the LBGT
community yet again.

This is just too good:

Pope: Women Will Be Banned From Priesthood Forever

Good news for the further downfall
of the Vatican. Just keep up the gender
bias and you can guarantee your own
demise.

He's up against the conservative catholic Vatican mafia that has been fighting him from day one of his papacy.
He's one man up against a 2 thousand year old institution.
Looks like he is caving in :-(

The bigotry and prejudice of the Church
is stunning to behold. Gays are born as
they are, and the Church thinks it's OK
to openly discriminate against them?
It's sickening in these modern times.

Such persons "find themselves in a situation that gravely hinders them from relating correctly to men and women," the text states. "One must in no way overlook the negative consequences that can derive from the ordination of persons with deep-seated homosexual tendencies."

Wow. I could have written this. Sums up my feelings towards the church very nicely.

Yet FrG will come here and say they lovvvve
Gays, god loves Gays, they're welcomed
with open arms by the Church. As long as
they don't have Gay sex, or act Gay. If they
do they will be barred from the priesthood.

Open discrimination, the ACLU should sue
the crap out of them.

Kind of reminds me of an old priest joke
3 priests line up before the Bishop
The Bishop wants to know how attracted to woman
A bell is tied to their private part.
A woman starts undressing, 2 bells start ringing.
The Bishop is angry, off to the showers both of you.
The 3rd priest just stands there
The Bishop tells the priest that passed, good job.
Now go take a shower. Dink a ling
lol
