Finally saw it at the IMax here, for $4 (with my yearly pass that gets me as many 45 minute IMax documentaries as I care to watch). Definitely the best film I've seen in IMax format, with the big space scenes shot really well, and not too much jerky action camera when at a more human level... Pacific Rim and the 1st Hobbit film were really hard to watch in such a big format when the action went side-to-side.

Plot was relatively predictable, but it still made me think. There were several pieces that made me jump and one scene that may have had some onions being cut in the cinema...

Were you okay with the two "spinning" scenes?

Yep, they were fine for me.

Maybe it is just me... I couldn't watch it, and it wasn't even on an IMAX screen. I guess I'll never get to be an astronaut.

Holy Crap! Just saw this on Prime. One
of the worst sci-fi movies ever made.
I watched 2 hours and FF'd thru the
last HOUR. What a stinking mess.
How anybody sat thru this in a
theater is amazing. 35 pages of
of one star reviews. THIRTY FIVE!
But tons of good reviews.

The first clue is it made 70% of it's
money outside the US, they'll watch
anything. Cornball swill, that's this
movie.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Interesting hypothesis. Let's look at this year's films (although some of them are new), ranked by percentage of box office made overseas.

The first group (>90% overseas) is basically foreign films of little or no interest in the USA and Canada. This includes the god-awful Chinese family films.

The second group (>70%, <90%) is British films and films that flopped in Northern America. There is some pretty good arguments for your hypothesis in this group.

A lot of the films in third group (>50%, <70%) are just failures. Ditto for the <50% group, although that includes films aimed at minority groups in the USA.

The hypothesis seems pretty valid.

Interstellar barely made back the production
costs in the US. Reading the reviews, people
walked out on the turkey in the middle of it
in droves. It was an hour too long and had
a convoluted story. Overseas I think they'll
watch anything from the US.

It goes without saying that Evenbob is not an expert on anything a film's box office success or failure. But here are the facts regarding Interstellar's profitability:

Quote:
According to our experts, at the end of the day those studios will net out $47,161,000. That is a good return — cash on cash return is 1.09
