Well if we can use achievements as proof for the Bible being the Word of God

We can't.

My point is the Romans were secure in their view of their position in the world. among other things they built a marvelous system of roads, amazing aqueducts, bridges, public areas (like fora), and though they were conquerors they also brought civilization and trade to far corners of the world.

They were arrogant, but had much to be arrogant about.

The Romans had no need to make themselves look better than they were by inventing a god-inspired legend (merely inventing the legend was enough).

then we could point to the invention of hospitals, orphanages, universities, the scientific method, modern civil rights movement, some amazing architecture, etc.

Well, hospitals existed since ancient times. The first university was the Museon at Alexandria, founded by Ptolemy I centuries BCE, and that was preceded by a plethora of academies run by pagan Greek philosophers.

Do you want to go on?

Regarding science, scientists who happen to be Christians have achieved great things. I can cite Newton and Lemaitre off hand. But using Christianity as a basis for science, nets you the Bishop of Usher's calculation that the universe began in 4004 BCE.

Hospitals of the Egyptians, of India and Rome, predate
Christianity by a thousand years in some instances.
Romans had orphanages, which the early Church no
doubt modeled theirs after.

As you know arrogance is not the Christian way.

I guess we should say the modern notion of hospitals, orphanages, universities, etc.

You say that with a straight face?

Over the past two millennia Christian apologists have claimed their religion to be the source of morality, marriage, everything good in the world (including things they opposed at first, but without acknowledging errors in judgment), etc. As you just tried to do just now, as a matter of fact.

Nareed, I really admire your command and understanding
of English, which has to be your second language. I would
feel a real sense of power if I had that much command over
two major languages. You must think in English as well
as Spanish, which I find an impossible concept.

Nareed, I don't know about you, but I feel a
sense of relief now that the padre in on vacay.
It bothers me thinking about all the Christian
stuff a lot, it makes me nervous. Not because
it might be true, but that people actually
believe it is true.

I just can't believe most of them do. If push
came to shove and you could get them to
be honest with themselves, I bet most of them
would say they want it to be true, but they
really don't believe it is.

It's the only thing that makes sense. To believe
all of it in the age we live in means you have
to have some serious blinders on. You have to
suspend your disbelief to the n'th degree.

a living except that it's an office job.

Nareed, if I was in Mexico I would go see this
movie with you. Egyptian gods are so much
cooler than Hebrew gods. All star cast, too.
