Wow, I had no idea anyone was still including a CD drive. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |

Lots of old games on CD can still run in new PCs (and better!) I have the original Sims, the Sims2, W-wing vs Tie Fighter, X-wing Alliance, A Trek academy game (with video cut scenes), a game based on Clarke's Rama series, and of course Myst. Though truth to tell, I haven't run a single one for years... Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

They are probably on the cheap end today. But this laptop was manufactured in 2016 and shipped on 1 October 2016, so it is not old. |

Isn't that the DVD drive? If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

They call them optical disk drive which is more or less open to all kinds of disks. You can load CD's, or DVD's, but not specifically high definition video using the blu-ray standard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray The computer weighs about 5 pounds, which is almost 3X the weight of the smallest and much more expensive laptops. The drives are the easiest things to give up to save on size and weight. But people don't use ethernet as much any more. |

Seems a minor breach but if its also your password at a banking site you might be in for some surprises. |

| Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 148 Posts: 25978 | I got my first computer 25 years ago today. A custom build that cost $1200. 8 megs of RAM, it was pitiful. Yet the grandest thing I ever saw. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

That was a powerhouse. My first computer had 32k of RAM and years later I bought a 5 MB hard drive for $800. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |

My very first computer had 4K RAM and a tape recorder. I could have gotten a better one with 16K RAM also with a tape recorder (but that one did an early version of multimedia), but that one was an Atari. No amount of explanation could convince my parents that Atari computers were real computers, not mere videogames, and they were near the top of the heap for the times. My first PC had 1MB RAM and 40 MB HD. I thought that was as near to infinite as made no difference. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

I knew I was wrong, I couldn't remember the right amount. It was 8k of course. Terribly slow, but fast for me. My brother just got a new HP with 12GB of RAM. Don't ask me why, it's a ridiculous amount of memory. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
