Around 10:00 daily activity goes way up, way way up. Today, BOOM! A ton flying around the hive and a ton over the neighbor's yard. Later I saw what I thought to be a swarm in a tree. Swarms last just a short time. This is all kinds of news. First, after 4 years on this project I finally appear to have a healthy hive! A weak hive will not swarm. Next, I have to learn to do a split. Had I been able to do a split this time I would have 2 hives. Bad news is I lost a free hive. Good news is everything else should be in order and hope to get some honey this year! Better news is the neighbors nor the cops came over about it. Lesson learned is May 5-10 is the target for a split next year. Last year I gave up looking in they were so weak, but this is the one that made it. This week I will look in too see the aftermath, if any. As usual, benign neglect worked. The President is a fink. |

Ideally you do a "split" and move half the bees to a new box in spring. Next year I gotta do better there.
You have no idea, one neighbor IS the cops. The President is a fink. |

Question is will people pay for local product? Talking at least twice as much as your local grocery, which as we have discussed is not real deal. In other news, I put a honey super on if a bit early. Hoping it motivates honey production. The President is a fink. |

Not so sure how many can make a total full time income as you are talking 100 hives or more based on their own numbers. But think if this could be done across Appalachia. Across central PA. Put people to work and get rid of that crap honey from China! The President is a fink. |
