Salvation is a free gift that God gives us that is received by faith in Jesus Christ. Yes it does save us from eternal death and Hell.
Accepting Jesus as your personal Savior is faith. It is our acceptance of this gift of salvation that Jesus offers us all. At least in Catholicism you are not required to believe in an actual place of the Garden of Eden. It is a representation of what our ultimate destination is meant to be when like Adam and Eve we are in perfect communion with God, ourselves, and nature.
Remember that Satan is not a human being. ON EDIT: Only instead of money its 'acceptance via a belief' with much of what must be believed being clearly absurd. So accept concepts of Heavan and Hell and Satan and then accept safety from Hell and Satan and Brimstone. Meanwhile go to church, supply an alter boy or two, fund some baskets of cheer and sort of be vampired financially. |

When writing a science book, Asimov said it felt like the info was coming in over his left shoulder and out his hands into the Selectric. Of which he owned 4. One was always broken, one was in the shop, that was the rotation. He said it took him 5 times longer to write a book of fiction than a book of science. A completely meaningless statement. And once explained, it's even more meaningless. In order to arrive at the needing salvation point, you have to completely swallow a whole bunch of preposterous nonsense. Like you are so powerful that you can actually offend a god with your actions. Nothing narcissistic about that..
