I don't disagree, that is why I said prison usually breeds criminals even for people who are in for relatively minor reasons.

But, they are secure from the public is what I should have more clearly said.

But, sadly it also causes other "normal" people to be forced to join racial based gangs to survive.

I saw a really good movie recently with Jamie Lannister (the actor) about a buisness man who goes to prison after killing somebody while drunk driving and becomes a high level white nationalist. This is obviously a movie, but not abnormal (for all races), prison forces people to join racial based gangs for protection initially, and status eventually.
