How to thwart Somali piracy

Somali pirates just hijacked a tanker: see

This low level piracy should be pretty easy to stop.

End passage by sole ships, sailing alone.

Adopt the convoy system; marshall the ships in a safe waiting area then have them all transit together, escorted and guarded by destroyers or other nimble warships "armed to the teeth."

Have several transits daily, all heavily escorted, and quickly and easily blow any attackers out of the water.

Yes, the delay would be costly but might it not be worth it?

Has this even been tried yet?

Seems so obvious...
