I just watched Apocalypse Now (1979, theatrical cut), not for the first time (far from it) but for the first time in a while, its still my #1 movie of all time (Redux version, 2001, is far better, but quite more of a time commitment for an already beefy movie). Nothing has come close to the #1 spot of movies for me.

Awesome movie, brilliant characters, excellent writing. If you have never watched it, very worthwhile. Anyway that is my random plug for Apocalypse Now.

You must not be a big fan of comedies. Airplane is unequivocally the greatest movie of all time. Anyone that disagrees needs to get their head examined.

I disagree

The original Vacation movie
is the funniest. The humor
will never go out of style.
Young Frankenstein is pretty
good to. Blazing Saddles
is hilarious.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

My answer for favorite movie changes from time to time.

Apocalypse Now and Taxi Driver are probably tied as my favorite movies of all time.

But, as far as comedies go, Airplane is close to perfect, great movie. But, its not the type of movie that changes your way of thinking.

It changed my way of thinking, that is when I started sniffing glue and talking Jive.

For humor, I probably got the most bang from the buck from Three Stooges shorts, but those aren't movies.

So, I'd go with Woody Allen's "Love and Death"

Then maybe "Caddyshack" Although it's a bit uneven, IMO.

Coppola's "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now" are both top movies of all time.

But my favorite director is Kubrick.

If Kubrick was still alive and could do 2001 as a 2020 remake, that could be my favorite movie.

Favorite multi-movie Lord of the Rings series.

Most disappointing attempt at making a movie from a book "Crime and Punishment". Multiple attempts and I find them all wanting.

I agree with you on almost everything, except Caddyshack, its ok, not my favorite kind of humor.

But, yes Godfather and Apocalypse Now are great (Apoclsypse Now edged out Godfather in my view).

Kubrick is a great director because of his variety of movies. I like Paths of Glory, I think its one of his underrated movies.

And LOTR (not the Hobbit trilogy), are close to pefect (again like Apocalypse Now, I prefer the extended versions, even though they make already long movies even longer, but thats not a bad thing for good movies).

I concur on Apocalypse Now. I'm not a good enough movie reviewer to say why it is so good, but it has something to do with the intensity combined with a hazy surrealism. In the same genera of Vietnam movies, The Deer Hunter is the most disturbing movie I have ever seen. I suppose that makes it a good movie since it's meant to be disturbing. But after seeing it once, I don't ever want to take that ride again.
