Sling TV is limited to 2 million subscribers. Presumably a waiting list will be assigned. As I understand it, Sling TV is an individual account (one device at a time), so many multi person households who watch on several TV's at the same time would not be interested in it anyway.

But the networks are nervous about the concept growing too fast, and undermining traditional cable TV.

How do you think they will handle the economics? If a million people are on the wait list, will they relax the limits (albeit at a higher price).

Some household have probably lost track of what they pay for converters, inverters, modems, boxes and wires.

Some households may well reconsider their disjointed viewing and go for a cheaper one unit device as a family.

Cable will probably impose annual fees rather than monthly fees.

I actually doubt it. Most households would freak out at having to watch one stream, or to alternate their TV watching. Sling does not permit recording of shows, so the husband can stay up late and watch his shows.

They are trying very hard to use this system to gather up people who have never owned cable.

Back 30 years ago when you were paying a low price per single local telephone line, and a per call for long distance, a household would probably be shocked at a $100 telephone bill. Nowadays people buy cell phone for every member of their family. If someone with three kids wants to volunteer their phone bill, I would bet most of them are over $200/month.

I was joking with my insurance agent and said
her phone bill was probably $250 a month. She
said she wished it was that low. How can people
afford it, I pay $80 a year and am perfectly happy.

It is about business. If you have clients that might net you $2,500-7,500 for one sale you need to call back NOW! You need to be available all the time.

In this day and age you can get unlimited talk for far less than $50/month. I've seen plans at Walmart for $20/month. The insurance agent is accessing data every month.

Verizon charges $30 phone + 30 GB Shareable Data Unlimited Talk & Text $225 + $15 for each GB above threshold. *Does not include taxes and surcharges.

I have never seen a cellular plan for $80/year . I found a plan for my father at $100/year which gives average 1 minute per day, but I thought it was the cheapest one there is. I have also seen plans for $100 /year that give an average of closer to 5 minutes per day, but my father has rolled over minutes for the last two years, so he doesn't care about the minutes.

Google Hangouts gives you unlimited domestic calls from public wi-fi spots for just the cost of the phone (which can be less than $20).

Tracfone. 2min a day. I use it a couple times
a month. I always have hundreds of unused
minutes that carry over.

I have a similar plan with at&t. I put $100/year on it to keep the minutes from expiring. It is 10 cents a minute. I don't even come close to using 1000 minutes in a year.

Tracfone.

The Tracfone website say $100 for 400 minutes. Perhaps you get some discounts from Walmart that gives you more time for less money.

I pay $20 for 120 min because I have a
double minutes phone. They cost 20
bucks and it's double min for life. The
regular phones are 10. I've never found a
place where they didn't work, it's a
great service if you don't talk much.
It's drug dealers phone of choice, they
call them burners because use them
a few times and toss them.
