Guess that 3 hour runtime didn't hurt. Based on my audience's overwhelming cheering throughout the movie, I'd say this one should have some legs. “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

I don't watch superhero movies either. Seems to me, to make it work, you also have to have supervillains. Sometimes we live no particular way but our own - Grateful Dead "Eyes of the World" |

Not even Superman (Christmas 1978) with Marlon Brando and Christopher Reeve and score by John Williams Batman (summer 1989) with Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton and Kim Basinger Producer: Jon Peters and Composer:Danny Elfman In December 1996 Marvel Entertainment Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. In 1997, Toy Biz bought Marvel Entertainment Group to end the bankruptcy, forming a new corporation, Marvel Enterprises. They were forced to sell their primary characters to Fox, NL, and Sony plus some to Lionsgate & Universal to make movies.
The success of x-Men franchize and the runawaysuccess of Spider-Man gave Marvel the backing to organize their less well known characters into a "Marvel Cinematic Universe" (MCU) where the characters would appear in multiple movies like comic books. In 2008 they release Iron Man and reacquired the right for The Hulk whose movie had done poorly in summer 2003. The new Hulk movie in 2008 did just as bad as the 2003 movie. Neverthless Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment Group for $4 billion in 2009. Despite Disney acquiring the company, the next three MCU films were already under contract to Paramount Studios Iron Man 2 Thor Captain America: The First Avenger By the summer of 2017 Sony allowed Spider-man to be reintegrated into the MCU, but still retained the rights to the character to make their own movies, and spin offs like Venom and an animated Spider-Man. With Disney buying FOX they now have the rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four, Daredevil and Elektra which can be re-integrated into the MCU. |
