"Bones" has done a good job of not making race a "reason" for having a character in the cast. While supporting cast member's ethnic backgrounds have been part of ongoing story arcs, individuals are valued for their intellect and special skills rather than their "color". I suppose that all started with the lead being a woman of super intellect.

Michaela Conlin has a mixed race background. Her father is Irish American and her mother is Chinese American

Other regulars are African American, and Persian.

Does the portrayal of these minorities as successful professionals, who work in a "race blind" environment, give the audience a false sense of the reality of being a minority in America? Perhaps, but I think it is good for the kids, just as "Leave it to Beaver" was good for families in the 50's.
