They are brilliant filmmakers, but their forte has always been small budget films that grew in the public perception for years after their release. I am a little nervous about all these big time movie stars. |

No script changes. None. Well, okay I do understand that in one movie they let an actor emit a low whistle at opening a bag containing a large sum of money, but everything else has to be scripted. When Charlie Chan went to The Tong the scene was filmed once a few years later the same scene was simply reused for Charlie Chan visiting the Tong on a different case. This would make the Coen Brothers salivate. In Four Feathers half the footage was from a different film, Coen Brothers salivate for sure. Use has been actors and actors on their way down. Use on camera. Squeeze the budget Coen Brothers make money, but I don't think any of the actors or directors gain nuttin'. In DDay the "stars" were on film for seven and a half minutes total. |

I'll like it but it'll be a BO flop. Too clever for most audiences and they don't like movies where Cloony acts like a goofball. The goat movie and O Brother come to mind. Weren't they both Cohn movies? I was shocked to see how much weight Jonah Hill has gained. He was so slim just a couple years ago. His friends say he's over 300 pounds now. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

No, Clooney has several collaborators that he works with. The Coen brothers, Grant Heslov, and Steven Soderbergh are among them George Clooney and the Coen Brothers "the idiot trilogy." 2000 O Brother, Where Art Thou? 2003 Intolerable Cruelty 2008 Burn After Reading George Clooney and Grant Heslov films 2005 Good Night, and Good Luck 2008 Leatherheads 2009 The Men Who Stare at Goats 2010 The American 2011 The Ides of March George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh 2007 Michael Clayton 2005 Syriana 2005 Good Night, and Good Luck. 2002 Confessions of a Dangerous Mind Jacob Hall is clearly a major Coen brothers fan who believes that even a less than stellar CB film is better than most offerings. But he offers this ranking. 16 'Intolerable Cruelty' 15 'The Ladykillers' 14 'The Hudsucker Proxy' 13 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' 12 'The Man Who Wasn't There' 11 'Blood Simple' 10 'Burn After Reading' 9 'Miller's Crossing' 8 'The Big Lebowski' 7 'Inside Llewyn Davis' 6 'Raising Arizona' 5 'Barton Fink' 4 'True Grit' 3 'Fargo' 2 'No Country For Old Men' 1 'A Serious Man' http://screencrush.com/coen-brothers-ranking/?trackback=tsmclip Personally, I am a big fan of Coen brothers and have seen most of their films multiple times. I do have a vivid memory of showing the first film, "Blood Simple" to my wife and her girlfriend. They hated it so much, they jeered at me and turned it off. |

Successful comedies are very difficult to predict. Probably Bruce Almighty (40 million domestic tickets) and The Hangover (37 million tickets) are the two most successful film comedies of the last 40 years. But Dark Comedy is one of the strangest genres. I think " The War of the Roses " about a marriage which began passionately and disintegrates into pure hatred is the most popular "dark comedy" film of all time. But "A Serious Man" is a dark comedy about the disintegration of a man's relationship with god and family. The audience was small, but very loyal. |

Did you see "Being John Malkovich"? I thought the idea, and the way it was developed, was clever. But many of the developments were mean. I probably wouldn't watch it again, but I liked it. My dad hated it, and I mean HATED, because of the scenes in the half-floor where everyone must crouch about. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |
