Nareed Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 346 Posts: 12545 | I'll be posting links to blogs I peruse and binge-read. Let's start with EvloutionBlog, by Jason Rosenhouse. http://scienceblogs.com/evolutionblog/ He has many interests for his blog, including chess (rather obvious) and math. The main interest is to illustrate the fight against Creationism in all its varieties. but Jason is particularly astute in philosophical arguments against religion in general as well, and also in defense of atheism. Highly enjoyable. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

Nareed Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 346 Posts: 12545 | I love this one, Neurologica Blog by Dr. Steven Novella: http://theness.com/neurologicablog/ Dr. Novella is a practicing neurologist. He posts mostly attacks on pseudosciences, anti-GMO propaganda, anti-vaccine lunacy, creationism, conspiracy theories, to a lesser extent against religion. He also often posts on neurological and neurobiological topics, ranging from perception to the workings of the brain. And he's a big proponent of evidence-based medicine. Nareed Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 346 Posts: 12545 | From a post in Evolution Blog, see above, I found a short story called "The Problem of Cell 13" by Jacques Futrelle. It's about a scientists whose nickname is The Thinking Machine (subtle!) who gets challenged to escape from a death row prison cell using only what a regular convict would have access to. Here's the link: www.futrelle.com/stories/TheProblemOfCell13.html It is a good read, but I warn you the method used to escape isn't as interesting as the rest of the story. The style is odd, too. The story was written early in the XX Century, but it reads more like Victorian era popular fiction. That's fine, but it throws me off when the narrator casually mentions telephones and electric lights. It would seem telegraphs and gas lamps would go better with that kind of narrative. The author lays down a decent mystery. I doubt most readers could solve it, but upon looking back the clues are there. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |
