The most expensive liquid in the world is a whopping 250X the price of the second most expensive liquid. Guess which is the most expensive, and which is the least expensive (of the top 10)?

Common date rape drops are flunitrazepam (Rohypnol), also called roofies; gamma hydroxybutyric acid (GHB), also called liquid ecstasy; and ketamine, also called Special K.

BLACK PRINTER INK
GHB (gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid )
MERCURY
INSULIN
HUMAN BLOOD
CHANNEL NO.5
SCORPION VENOM
KING COBRA VENOM
BLUE BLOOD OF HORSHOE CRAB
LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide)

HUMAN BLOOD – $1,500
GHB (gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid )- $2,500
BLACK PRINTER INK – $2,700
MERCURY – $3,400
INSULIN – $9,400
CHANNEL NO.5 – $26,000
BLUE BLOOD OF HORSHOE CRAB-$60,000
LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide)- $123,000
KING COBRA VENOM– $153,000
SCORPION VENOM – $39,000,000

I guessed the first two right away, it was
obvious.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

This is more of a "for Randall Monroe" type question: is there enough existent scorpion venom in the world to collect one whole gallon?

BLACK PRINTER INK ....... not so cheap...always thought it was a powder though.
GHB (gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid ) ... date rape drugs are cheap.... battle field anesthetics can't be expensive Pricey on black market.
MERCURY...........................................cheap stuff due to gold mining increasing its demand
INSULIN ...........................................Pricey.
HUMAN BLOOD .................................gotta be moderately pricey else none of those ghetto clinics or free movies in India.
CHANNEL NO.5 ................................Pricey.
SCORPION VENOM ............................priciest of all venoms
KING COBRA VENOM .........................Pricey
BLUE BLOOD OF HORSHOE CRAB ........... my vote for number one. copper based blood. Usedd for precise biochemical analytics.
LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) ........... cheap stuff. patent expired long ago. Pricey on black market.

These items are not inherently expensive. Printer Ink is obviously like heroin. They give you the printers for close to cost, and then you are hooked. Human blood is cheap, but you want "clean" human blood. LSD is high markup stuff.

I buy perhaps a black ink cartridge once every two years. I don't print much at home.

At the office we use toner only. It's not cheap, but it's cheaper than ink.

There are a lot of expenses involved per unit of blood. Aside from storage, sterile bags and equipment, there are analyses made on the samples they take from you before you fill the unit bag. It's screened for several diseases, and it's typed, too. That brings the price up a lot.

Far more interesting, though, are exorbitant prices for certain foods and spices. Can you believe a customer once asked us to price saffron per kilo? It would be far more appropriate to price it per karat.

I am surprised Mercury is in the "top 10". There are many other fragrances that retail for more than the pedestrian "Chanel No. 5".

I doubt that the source that I pulled those numbers from is really interested in being 100% accurate. It wouldn't be interesting if it was just a list of mostly perfumes. As Nareed pointed out, the #1 liquid on the list probably doesn't sell a gallon in the entire country per year.

LSD is on this list of substances as well. So is Tritium

19. White Truffles
18. Saffron
17. Iranian Beluga Caviar
16. Gold (Edible Gold)
15. Rhodium
14. Platinum
13. Rhino Horn
12. Crème de la Mer
11. Heroin
10. Methamphetamine
9. Crack Cocaine
8. LSD
7. Plutonium
6. Taaffeite (The mauve-colored gem is thought to be more than a million times scarcer than diamonds)
5. Tritium
4. Diamonds
3. Painite (thought to be the rarest gem mineral)
2. Californium 252
1. Antimatter (what do you keep it in?)
