More important than the little cockpit for a pilot, though, is the armament. the reason fighters don't have engines on the wings, is because that's where the weapons and the extra fuel tanks are carried. In particular for attack planes in bombing runs. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

Rear engine has a habit of over heating too. Safety feature is that either one or both engines failing will not cause asymmetric thrust, you just lose speed and altitude but don't have to worry much about taking immediate action. Have to check carefully for accumulated water in fuel though. Heard on the frequency: Are you the Skymaster. No, I'm just a student pilot. Burt Rutan once built a small agile fighter plane with Gattling Gun on one side, engine air intake on the other because when fighter planes fire ordnance a jet engine can be temporarily choked with gunpowder rather than oxygen. |
