Rich people will be devastated insured.

Quote:
The average home price in Palm Beach topped $7 million in the second quarter, according to Douglas Elliman and Miller Samuel — believed to be the highest in Florida. And town tax records show that the total value of real estate in Palm Beach County is north of $140 billion.

But those numbers obscure the true scale of many of the homes in the town of Palm Beach, which include several homes valued at more than $100 million.
The highest-profile property in Palm Beach, of course, is Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago. While the premises have a beach club that could suffer damage, the main property is a hulking mansion built from concrete, steel and anchored to a coral reef below ground. According to the Palm Beach Daily News, Mar-a-Lago has withstood hurricanes going back to the 1920s, with very little damage.

The big test will be for the newer mega-mansions in Palm Beach. Among the most prominent homes are Nelson Peltz's 13-acre estate, valued by some at more than $200 million. The compound, on North County Road, features a main house with more than 47,000 square feet.

And out of harm's way. Rich people will be out of town; staffers will stay in the home and contact the insurance agents.

It seems the rich can buy better weather than us poor folk.

So far the storm is much ballyhoo but mainly wind and rain. Didn't even knock out power as much as was predicted. Storm surge not a problem for Florida as storm its self did not make landfall at The Space Coast as predicted, it only made a close approach.

They interviewed a guy in a mobile
home half a mile from the beach
yesterday. He's been there 40
years and said he never leaves
because no matter what they say,
it's always just like a bad thunder
storm, big deal. Looks like he was
right again.

Even some of the 'total structural writeoffs' are declared by adjusters only AFTER some gratuities change hands. One service club in Florida got its building (discount bar) rebuilt after greasing the inspector's palm. Now everyone drinks booze on the cheap, eats some stuff made with federally funded kitchen equipment and has pity on the poor private restaurant owners who paid taxes to support the system.

I remember an interview with an old guy like that who lived near Mt St. Helens.

Point is, you watch the radar and use
your head. Even I could tell it would
never make landfill. Storm surge in
most places under 2 feet. Big deal.

As long as you have windows and doors like an aquarium.
