The Nielsen estimates revealed that ESPN lost 555,000 subscribers during the last month.

Down 11 million in 3 years. Down to 88 million. Every 10 million is almost $900 million per year in subscriber fees alone.

I don't buy the part of the article that it is mostly the left-wing slant on the air, but I buy that said slant is part of it. That will drive people from the talk shows but the game is the game.

When will they begin cutting bone?

ESPN Losing 10,000 Subscribers a Day Over Its Political Left Turn

Viewership of Thursday night football (CBS) is down 9%. Sunday night football (NBC) is down 11%.

“We don’t really know,” said Neal Pilson, a former CBS executive and the founder of Pilson Communications, a consulting firm focused on sports TV. “I can’t give you a specific reason why the NFL’s ratings are down…. It’s very hard to find one reason. It’s not one thing. You have to look at five, six, seven things to figure it out. It’s a confluence of multiple negative factors.” Ratings are down not only for the NFL but for a variety of sports, Pilson said.

Are you arguing that fewer people are watching football on CBS because ESPN is too liberal? ESPN isn't alone: sports programming on every channel is being affected by this cord-cutting phenomenon. This isn't about Republicans vs. Democrats.

I totally agree
I lean left and I hardly watch any football

I'm a lot more likely to be home and near a TV on Sunday evenings than on Thursday's.

Also, on Sundays I look up which games are on, on the cable box guide, and set reminders. Inevitably I find the evening game, and MNF to boot, and set them as well. On Thursdays I often forget there's even a game on.

Do you get cable? You should be watching more ESPN, apparently it's really leftist these days. You'd love it. Viewership of ESPN among liberal Democrats must be through the roof.

The last cable bill had the following surcharges
Broadcast TV Surcharge $9.03
Sports Programming Surcharge $7.82
Entertainment Networks Surcharge $7.10
Total = $24.05

Presumably the $7.82 is what Disney charges the cable company to broadcast all the ESPN channels. The Broadcast charge is what the cable company pays to re-transmit signals that are available on antenna service. I don't know what Entertainment Networks Surcharge. I think the cable company pays more than $24.05 to all the networks combined.

Sling TV with ESPN option and a total of 30 channels is now $20 a month and they will give you a $30 Roku Express adapter if you prepay two months.

I actually watch a lot of ESPN
I watch pardon the interruption daily
I pretty much grew up reading and watching Wilbon and Kornheiser in the Wash post and on the local tv stations in DC
I watch a lot of college basketball and some pro ball
Last nites game was a hoot with Bill Walton and Dick Vitale doing the Cleveland Cavs game. They generally just do college but ESPN got them together :-)
They told a lot of great stories.

Most athletes of color generally lean left
They get hired by ESPN so it all makes sense
Overall I don't see politics on ESPN

That's what I did, except I paid for the $25/mo Blue plan. Got the Roku.

I missed a show that I wanted to watch on AMC. Turns out AMC has a Roku plug-in that let me watch the show, with no signup, sign-in, or cable subscription.

If you don't know the difference, you best never go out to any of kids and grandkids sports.
