A persistent noise of unknown origin, sometimes compared to a truck idling or distant thunder, has bedeviled a Canadian city for years, damaging people’s health and quality of life, numerous residents say.

Those who hear it have compared it to a fleet of diesel engines idling next to your home or the pulsation of a subwoofer at a concert. Others report it rattling their windows and spooking their pets.

Known as the Windsor Hum, this sound in Windsor, Ontario, near Detroit, is unpredictable in its duration, timing and intensity, making it all the more maddening for those affected.

It's already been studied a lot. But I aim to solve it immediately.

It's a geological bounce from deep underground. Machinery in some place faraway refects off a deep surface material in the Earth and it comes back out there.

Interesting, I never heard of it before.

This article claims it is from a blast furnace on Zug Island.

People should be able to hear it real good in a few years, the new international bridge is going in very close to there.

With all those cash-strapped rural towns allowing deep well injection of contaminated waste you just might be right.

All that 'sonic weapon' stuff beamed by Cuba into the American legation varies from utter nonsense to a Soviet weapon.
