Rehab is proceeding well, I'm a little ahead of schedule.

That's good.

Will you be able to walk from Paris to CR?

I'm guessing that's a really stupid question, BTW.

No, it's a great question. In fact at my very first pre-op check in with the surgeon, which was also my first physical therapy appointment, I said "I have a trip to Vegas in exactly 1 month. Will I be able to walk around the strip?" (The appointment was on 4/22 and I get in to Vegas on Wednesday 5/22.) He was not optimistic that I would be fully recovered, said I might have take a few more taxis than normal, etc. Which sucks for me, because when I'm playing BJ in Vegas it's very hit-and-run style, and the next casino is often 0.5 to 1 mile away on foot.

But, I'm walking almost normally today with no crutches or anything, so I'm more optimistic now. The therapists say I'm proceeding well and I just have to be diligent with my exercises, and I'm hoping my Vegas trip will be almost normal, for me. I may have to take a few more sitting breaks than normal and I'll definitely be icing the knee whenever I happen to be back in my room, but at the very least, the trip from Paris to CR on Saturday will be easy.

I took to heart my many teachers' advice about there not being stupid questions. Still, there are stupid questions (what's the number for nine one one? being one), so it's best to make it clear I'm ignorant, not unintelligent. ;)

Just don't re-injure yourself. No amount of good craps is worth it. And opportunities to sit down are often lacking between casinos. Here'a another stupid question: have you considered getting a portable, light-weight folding stool, just in case?

Re-injuries scenarios are pretty rare for this specific recovery. Basically I would have to be doing something stupid, like running or trying to play sports, or engaging in activity that had a high risk of falling over. Falling down could be bad, depending on how I land if it stresses the knee in the particular directions that the ACL supports. If that were to happen, snap, back under the knife :(. But, like I said, very very low-probability.

I will have no qualms in asking for a stool at a craps table if my knee is feeling sore. I have a feeling some casinos would be fine with it (I've seen it before and it's been discussed at WoV before), and some pit crews would look at me like, huh?

Other than that, I'll be fine. Blackjack is played sitting, so that's good. On this trip my BJ hours should exceed my craps hours by at least 4-to-1. If they don't, then I haven't held strong to my goals.
