Futurama has been cancelled by Comedy Central a full decade after it was cancelled by Fox

That is episodes 1-72 from March 28, 1999 - August 10, 2003, and episodes 73-140, March 23, 2008 -September 4, 2013.

As animation is untroubled by the voice actors getting older, and it doesn't require much of their time, the series could theoretically be made for another ten to twenty years.

So where do you think they will end up? Netflix, Hulu, or Univision! Or do you think ithe series is played out?

The Simpsons did their first episode on December 17, 1989 and their 530th is planned for May 19, 2013. At this point, they probably won't quit before breaking the record set by Gunsmoke's 635 episodes set on September 1, 1975. However, as Simpson's are only 22 episodes per year, that will take another 5 years.

It's done for.

To be frank, I was surprised when it debuted, and even more surprised when it got resurrected (of course, that's happened one and a half times already, so. who knows). I mean, many of the jokes are based on classic SF, and a lot of the feel of the show is rather old-fashioned futurism (talk about a contradiction in terms!)

I mean things like:

Fry: maybe people are the secret ingredient!
Leela: No. There's already a soda like that: Soylent Cola
Fry: What's it like?
Leela: It varies from person to person.

It's one of my favorites, but I haven't seen it much since it has been on CC mainly because I no longer watch TV unless on the computer. I really believe Viacom has too strict a censorship stance on content though and this may be the problem. It's not as funny perhaps, because they won't let it be. It's just my opinion based on what I have noticed with movies and shows on the channels.

It is my understanding that all the most popular cable shows are worried about getting an "identity" since reruns may not sustain a cable channel anymore. More and more reruns are being watched as "on demand" products.

The traditional cable show, religion and sports, news, and reality are not enough anymore.
seasons
35 The 700 Club -ABC Family 1977 to present
35 Inside the NFL - HBO/Showtime 1977 to present
31 SportsCenter - ESPN September 7, 1979 to present
30 Bobby Jones Gospel - BET January 27, 1980 present
30 Moneyline -CNN June 1, 1980 to November 11, 2009
30 Washington Journal C-SPAN October 7, 1980 to present
29 NASCAR on ESPN 1981 to 2002: 2007 topresent
27 The Real World MTV 1992 to present

So there is a mad dash to develop scripted series for each channel.

Comedy Central shows like South Park are among the longest running shows. But other than those shows, the ratings are not that high for CC.

While it's sad to see it go, shows are better off when they end before their time rather than after.

But then - "two season and christmas special" (or even five seasons and movie).

What of CNN? Did they not make the list while Fox News rates over TBS?

Futurama will live on in re-runs. Media is expensive. Syndication is not.

I'd say I'll miss the Robot Santa, but I think he has been played out ("your mistletoe is not match for my TOW missile" and that was in the first season)

It is my understanding that Fox News has been the highest rated cable news channel for many years, easily outperforming CNN.

Fox News: The highest rated "news" channel? That's sad.

Actually one of the highest rated networks on cable altogether.

USA Network is the most valuable part of NBC Universal at $11.7 billion, but the NBC network is worth a negative $600 million, $6.3 billion for Syfy, $3.9 billion for CNBC, $2.8 billion for MSNBC and $2.6 billion for Bravo according to Wunderlich Securities analyst Matthew Harrigan (Sepvember 2010)

USA is buoyed by it's schedule of light dramas
Psych (2006–present)
Burn Notice (2007–present)
Royal Pains (2009–present)
White Collar (2009–present)
Covert Affairs (2010–present)
Suits (2011–present)
Necessary (2011–present)

NBC broadcast is likely to renew most of it's mostly light dramas (Deception may get axes)
Revolution (2012–present)
Chicago Fire (2012–present)
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999–present)
Hannibal (2013–present)
Parenthood (2010–present)
Grimm (2011–present)
Deception (2013–present)

NBC broadcast is likely to cancel most of it's comedies (Parks and Recreation the only successful one)
Parks and Recreation (2009–present)
Go On (2012–present)
Community (2009–present)
Up All Night (2011–present)
Whitney (2011–present)
The New Normal (2012–present)
Guys with Kids (2012–present)
1600 Penn (2012–present)
