It appears to be a top to bottom 360 degrees business strategy. Customers, employees, and community.

Yep. And it's not just a mission statement. They live it.

No free coffee in my local Publix. I frequently get a guy to follow my cart out to my car, unload it and bring it back who is dealing with a head injury. I try to eat there (free samples from an instore chef). Their pastry is a bit too much for my wallet and a good bit too much for my waistline. Their produce is indeed fresh and a bit more exotic than most other stores.
It is a pleasant experience and a more 'upscale' place with upscale shoppers. Its just twice the distance and so I often have to go to the closer store.

Obv I haven't been to your store, but are you sure? Sometimes it's by the deli or the customer service counters. Might be worth asking them.

I don't think I have free coffee at my Publix
but
Kids always get something sweet from the bakery for free
When buying deli meats, always get a free sample

There is a chain of stores here that
sound like Publix. Stores are different
depending on the neighborhood.

I have free coffee in mine, but some
stores don't. We have lots of free
samples in mine, many stores do
not. The parking lot of mine is
solidly SUV's, Navigators, Escalades,
Hummers, Lexus. Most of the other
stores are not.

A couple years ago the deli had a
pan of free pizza slices. A mom of
color with two boys in their early
teens came in (a rarity), spotted
the pizza and stood there eating
till it was gone. The mom asked
when another pan was coming
out and the girl said 'tomorrow'.
By then the boys had discovered
the chip and dip tray and were
emptying it. That's the reason only
some stores have samples and coffee.

That's an absolutely true story. Am
I racist for telling it to give the reason
some stores have more perks than
others? Do I care?

I believe it. Same reason fast food places in the hood often do not have self-serve pop refills. One a few miles from my mother's house, a Burger King, sits right on the edge of an old apartment complex that now mostly Section 8. OK neighborhood other than that. I was eating there once and couple old guys were talking about how they had to pull the fountains. People were bringing in their own containers and filling them.

Then they wonder why nobody wants them around their business.

What? They were out for brunch. Hard to keep enough food in front of a teen.

They don't have samples here, except for at the Dr's office. I was surprised when I went to Whole Foods in Phoenix. Seemed like an upper clientele. Great place to babe watch. Some of those nicely dressed women only eat one piece of lettuce per meal. Spandex can be pretty if worn in the right place. hehe

We used to eat at Old Country Buffet
4 times a week because my wife
closed her business at 7pm. Sometimes
kids of color would waste a lot of
food. Get a heaping plate full, have
a few bites of this or that, shove it
aside and get another heaping plate.

The manager would say it's 'all you care to
eat, not all you care to waste'. If they
continued he would give them a refund
and ban them forever. Man, the screaming
that took place. "We done paid for this,
we got our rights!" He would tell them no,
you paid for what you can eat, not how
high you can fill the garbage can with
what you didn't eat.

It was a restaurant with a floor show..

Its a "get back at the man" thing. Who hasn't seen it? The difference is some people keep excusing it.
