The political stuff about Musk is just blowing smoke and posturing. The primary reason the HQ left is to be closer to the SpaceX center and the new manufacturing plant. The SpaceX launchpad on the extreme southern tip of Texas is there so they can launch east over water; it has nothing to do with politics. Tesla has wanted a centrally located car plant to reduce shipping costs across the US.

It has a ton to do with politics. Remember Toyota left CA recently. CA just makes it very hard to do business there, and they have this attitude of "WE ARE CALIFORNIA, PEOPLE HAVE TO LOVE IT HERE!" Meanwhile smart businesses are leaving the place.

1962 Fremont Assembly operated by General Motors
1984 GM and Toyota to team up and create New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI),remaking the troubled Fremont Assembly into the new NUMMI plant.
2010 Tesla Motors buys most of the plant

Now Toyota and Tesla are a little more than 200 miles apart in Texas.

What's happening in California is what's happened to Detroit. Big businesses started moving out and that caused small businesses to close. And that caused people to start moving out. It took time but it eventually devastated the city. And it will devastate California. Eventually what you will have there is the same or bigger population but they're going to be welfare people and druggies and crooks and illegal aliens and tons of homeless. There will still be lots of businesses but it will be top-heavy with undesirables. Like Detroit.

Michigan recently legalized online gambling again. And the last week of July they started offering live dealers in the casinos online. It's all handled by Evolution Gaming which just opened a new office in Detroit this summer that hires dealers for there online casino feed. When I started playing in August I only saw one race represented among the dealers. It took me three days before I saw somebody who was not of that race. Now in October it's totally different. I see a mixture of the races all day and sometimes I don't see any of the original race at all. What happened was the people they originally hired got a few paychecks and quit and went back on welfare because it's Detroit. It's too hard to sit in an air-conditioned room making good money dealing blackjack then it is to sit at home watching The Price is Right and collecting a welfare check. This is where California is heading. You would not see this on my side of Michigan. The work ethic here is much stronger and it is also much harder to get on welfare because there are so many jobs. Saying you cannot get a job in West Michigan you dang well better be crippled because there is nothing but jobs here. Factory jobs, truck driving jobs, restaurant jobs, hotel jobs, restaurants are cutting back their hours because they can't find enough wait staff. Some factories cutting off second shifts because they can't find enough workers. My brother is in a physical therapy rehab and he says they are horribly understaffed and the nursing jobs there start at 50 grand a year. If you say you can't find a job here you're lying
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I understand why they are understaffed. According to this Nurses start at $60k and get big raises. I think the average is over $80k

"How much does a typical RN make?
Most registered nurses begin their career on a salary between $60,000 $65,000. The beauty of the Nurse Award 2010, is that your pay will then grow 4-5% every year after that, until you have 8 years' experience. At which point, all nurses at this stage of the career will be on roughly the same amount."

I know in most big cities there is such a demand for nurses they get paid quite a bit more and usually will get signing bonuses of $25k to $50k. Many nurses that agree to work overtime will make over $120k a year.
We are all going to die, why procrastinate?
