WASHINGTON (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton mused aloud about the significance of America electing its first female president. Left unsaid: whether she might try again to be the one.

In a video of a private Clinton speech posted to YouTube on Friday, Clinton told a Canadian audience that she hoped the U.S. would elect a woman to the White House because it would send "exactly the right historical signal" to men, women and children. She said women in politics need to "dare to compete" and the nation needs to "take that leap of faith."

It is time to stop being concerned about what gender or race our next President should be and work as hard as possible to elect the BEST candidate. Obviously, this is but a dream in many ways because the "best" usually don't even run but it should be what we strive to achieve.

The "BEST" candidates in our elections will be defined by each party, of course.

If the best candidate is an old, white male, so be it. The same if it is a lady of any race or color. Getting the best qualified person elected as President should be the top priority. I am sure that either now or in not too many years, the best qualified will be a person of color or a woman...or maybe even both. It isn't a "leap of faith" to elect a highly-qualified candidate as our President.

Best candidate usually means the most well-funded with no major black marks on their record and a bland sort-of folksy style of saying nothing.

The best candidate would never want the job.
