Personally, I tend to have 200 to 400 in mine, depending on how much time I have to delete stale ones. However, some are hard to delete because they contain information I may need sometime. Yes, I can always dig it out of the "deleted" box, but there are so many Emails in that one that it is harder to find anything. Others I just put off replying to. After about six months I finally say to myself, "He never nagged me for a reply; I guess it wasn't that important."

So, I'm wondering if my in box is cluttered, compared to others. The question for the poll is, how many are in yours?

I use the archive facility on Gmail a lot. This means I can find this info quickly again.

You may be a little high side, but you are in a position where you surely get more email than most people. I have about 150 in my personal email inbox. My work box has about 250 but lots of that is kept for CYA needs.

My work email is about 20... the rest are again tagged and archived for CYA needs. The 20 in the inbox are basically 'things I gotta do or reply to'. I do have a ticket system as well I check, but those tickets do come to my inbox, so I can at least decide quickly if I need to deal with now, or when I have the hour or so I use to clean up the ticket queue.

In 22 years I've never deleted a personal email. Ever.
I have every email I ever sent or received in about
15 accounts. Right now I have 10,046 in my Gmail
account I opened 7/11 and in the Yahoo I opened
in 05, there are over 70,000. I sold on Ebay for
10 years, so there has to be a couple hundred
thousand in the other accounts. Or more.

Come on, your Inbox? You don't want to clutter your Inbox. Make folders and drag the non-current there with your mouse as a routine.

What's the difference. I read the new ones
and leave the old ones there. What does it
matter where they are.

Nobody calls me a Neat Freak or begs me to tell them my secrets for staying 'so organized', but to me something in the Inbox screams unfinished business, at the very least an unfinished decision to reply or forward or whatever. Your mileage may vary.

email is yesterdays newspaper.

Just under 5000. 99% of them are unimportant. Most of them are either casino junk or political fundraising. It doesn't matter to delete them or just have them get lost with neglect.
