I'm going to try to get around to it eventually. It's not the first time I've heard that. Nearly three-hour runtime is my big hangup with that one. The Shining was about two and a half, but I didn't exactly see that movie by choice. I thought it pretty much sucked, anyway. Everything after that was almost a completely different movie and I didn't get the point of any of it. It's like, neat story with Hartman and Gomer Pyle, he shoots Hartman...and now stereotypical warzone movie. Read it, liked it, doubt I'll see the movie. As embarrassing as it is to admit, given the low reading level, Fahrenheit 451 is probably my favorite dystopian novel. I'm really partial to Ray Bradbury, in general, though. In terms of the pragmatic elements, or at least what has become our pragmatic elements, I think he was the closest when it came to his vision for what the future might look like. I mean, the guy accurately predicted screens that could just as well take up entire walls as well as group Facetimes. "War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen..let us give them all they want." Man, teenage girls in the 70's were nuts for that band. One of my friends guessed that if you looked at their record collections, every girl in my high school owned Best of Bread. Whenever I was allowed to look at a girls record collection I would look for it and it was always there. Maybe not 100% but close. My wife still has her copy. The mind hungers for that on which it feeds. |
