I love what is happenning in Hong Kong.
Been watching the news reports out of Hong Kong.
Al Jazeera America - excellent coverage, excellent reports and interviews.
BBC - again excellent coverage.
CNN - ok coverage.
MSNBC - poor coverage. has nothing to do with usa politics so little coverage
FOX - poor coverage. No anti Obama angle so fox has little interest.

My opinion , The PEOPLES Republic of China needs to listen to the PEOPLE.

It's all fine, until the armed troops show up. Sounds like Tianamin Square all over again...

Since the U.S. seems to have forgiven that atrocity, it will also forgive the forthcoming bloodbath in Hong Kong.

Totally disagree. China understands it's
people better than anybody and they
are doing just fine. China is far from
ready to go the 'listen to the people'
route, too damned many of them.

The Chinese know the minds of the Chinese
far better than anybody else. And there are
almost a billion of them. Not a few thousand
like we had in 1776. You have to rule with an
iron fist with that many people, and things
will eventually work out. China will rule the
world one day, it's inevitable. They are patient,
they aren't bogged down by religion, and
they are extremely smart. The world could do
worse.

They also have a good sense of humor, I've
heard diplomats say they would rather be
stationed in China than EU. The Chinese
appreciate self deprecating humor, the
stick up the arse bigwigs in EU do not.

I wasn't sure so I understated it. Even
better, even more reason to rule with
a titanium fist.

When China was about to hit a billion they put the breaks on population growth with One Child per Family policy. They are at 16.5 million births and 10.1 million deaths this year, but by 2027 the estimates are 12.82 million births and 12.85 million deaths (i.e. deaths outnumber births).

1979 972 million (One Child Per Family policy introduced)
1980 985 million
1981 997 million
1982 1.012 billion
...
2014 1.356 billion
2026 1.395 billion (estimated peak population

Colonial America had only two cities with over 15K in 1776, but there were about 2.5 million living in rural homes. Most people had a copy of The King James Bible, Pilgrim's Progress and that was about it for books in their house.

But you get my point. There was almost nobody
living here compared to China, when we had
liberty thrust upon us. You can't do that to 1.3
billion people, it would be chaos.

Even the most ardent defenders of democracy agree that in many ways it is much more chaotic than autocracy.

High-speed rail (HSR) in China may refer to any commercial train service in China with an average speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) or higher. High-speed rail service in China was introduced on April 18, 2007, ans as of December 2013 , HSR now has 11,028 km (6,852 mi) of track in service.

The world's longest line, the 2,298 km (1,428 mi) Beijing–Guangzhou High-Speed Railway now takes 10:16 and takes you right to the border of Hong Kong.

To build almost 1000 miles of HSR per year is almost impossible in a democratic society.
