All of them would be left behind. The pore size of that filter isn't small enough to remove wee beasties. You would need a filter with a pore size of 0.22 microns to sterilize. As well, that paper filter isn't sterile in and of itself.

I'm thinking there may be a stickiness factor. Same reason a large sewer drain can become clogged. Clumping.

I'm also thinking the slow movement could also contribute to more filtering. Somewhat like the difference of trying to clean something with a trickle vs a pressure washer.

I've been filtering water-based solutions for injection into humans for 30 years. You can filter that water as many times as time will allow from now until doomsday, and it will be no more sterile the last time than the first time.

I'm going to be pedantic and say you don't need sterile water. Tap water is not sterile.

Now would I drink what I made. Well, I would if I couldn't boil it or had anything else. But, better than drinking that mud.
